Hope you all had great 4th of July. I was off eating watermelon and hanging out with a sick baby and a grump husband because the baby being sick put the kaibosh (sp?) on the fishing and fun. We went out of town for the weekend and did not much but listen to a little babe cry and whine. We got through it though and have a new outlook on parenthood. We knew this before but didn't really sink in so much that our lives are no longer ours. We can try but a lot of times plans get messed up and you roll with the punches. Our girl has been pretty healthy other than minor things and this was just a eye opening situation.
Jersey, I would have loved to come and help you with all sorts of things but I know I'm too late. I love to chop stuff up and I love to cook and bake. :< Next time I'll be a little quicker on the draw. Like others have voiced your daughter is lucky to have you especially where you have walked in her shoes before. You truly UNDERSTAND her pain and I hope she can find comfort in that.
Marty, that's fun that you are getting so excited for your birthday and more so for your graduation. That is a big thing to be excited about. You deserve it. I'm sure everything with your family will go over okay and if it doesn't well then there you have something to at least talk about right?
Joy, sorry to hear about your marriage but I'm happy that you have felt confident in us to confide. You are safe here and it probably feels good to at least have got it out somewhere, anywhere. I feel for you and I don't ever want to know your pain. You and your family are in my prayers. There might still be some joy to be had from your marriage and family. When its time it will come out. After all you are Joy and you should know right? By the way, good one on the S(MArty) pants... LOL.. had me laughing very clever.
Ginny, you are a crack up. Thanks for the fun. I wish that I had my computer at home working. It took me so long to catch up with you all and I could have got some good reading in over the weekend and had more fun with you all.
April, my co-worker that had her surgery, same knee done a few weeks ago has been doing really well with her recovery. Turns out there are knee surgery needs popping up all over. I have another co-worker that got the news from her doctor last week that she has to have the same surgery as you. I bet you'll do fine. Your a feisty one.
Happy to be back and catching up with all of you. I have a special request for some of you. I need to have Jersey, Marty, Amazing, and April re-send your photos via email to me? I am working on a special project for us photo swapping byetta friends. I had saved the early pictures in a word document and now I can't get them out. RRRGGG So if and when you have a minute that would be great. I'll let you all know soon the little something I've been working on. P.S. Greg if you want to send me your picture for the project too it would be an honor to include you. Thanks and happy Monday to all.
Most of all, thanks for our free country that we live in and thank you to Greg for the new home. It feels GREAT.
by Mel_Smith (PM , CC ) on Monday July 7, 2008 @ 12:41 PM
Jersey, Marty, Amazing, and April never mind on re-send your photos via email to me. I was able to get what I needed to work. I will email all that have shared pictures with the project I was working.
Dennis, I also wanted to see how your son enjoyed the F1 races? My husband recorded it and I saw part of it. Hope your son wasn't too miserable in the rain and hope you survived the grandchildren.
by Mel_Smith (PM , CC ) on Monday July 7, 2008 @ 4:19 PM
Hi, I looked up and down the block and could not find our new home. It's beautiful and big. Real easy to get into it to, even without a key. I had a nice email from our buddy, Greg. He is off Byetta and doing much better off it. He will never go back on it, but he will be like Motel 6 and he will always have the light on here for us He did send me the instructions and I do hope that I don't have to bother him after the next 400 posts. I do miss him very much. He used to keep Jersey on her toes and that is not an easy thing to do. But I really did give him many headaches. He said that he was happy that he started the blog because he met me. I never mentioned it on here, but when his daughter in law was having health issues, I had received a bottle of holy water from Lourdes that a patient had brought into me in my office when I was having all the tests. I contacted Greg and asked him if he would like me to send it to him. He was so pleased. I sent it to him and he went and gave it to his daughter-in-law and in my heart of hearts I think it might have helped her because she is much better. All a bunch of strangers and what a wonderful group
Mel, Sorry our you little doll was sick over the weekend. I tried to think of something to do with all our pictures for us all to share, but couldn't think of anything. I should have know that the "Blog Baby" would think of something. We are so lucky to have you still here. I was afraid that you would stop coming by when you were off Byetta. I would miss you terribly
Where is Miss SMarty Pants??..giggle giggle. That is just to freakin cute. Thanks, Joy. You are very witty. Where are you today?
April, good luck and we will be thinking of you. I am actually jealous. I wish I had my left knee scheduled for surgery. It is such an easy procedure and you will wake up and the pain will be gone. Dan is working a little later tonight so I am going to relax and start dinner and sip a glass of Pinot Grigio. Have a nice night and everyone PLEASE keep the new house neat OK.!? If you make a mess, clean it up.
Jersey-you didn't check the old home. This Smarty Pants was not entering the new home until "Her Royal Queen of Lizards" entered first. I wanted to come in and hang a welcome sign for you, but wouldn't presume to do that. I left a very lengthy post on the old blog. You can check it out.
The doctor's appointment went rally well. All of the numbers were good, except the tryglercerides were a tiny bit elevated. He said not to worry they would come back down. He gave me the go ahead to eat anything I want while on my trip, and this Friday for b-day. He doesn't realize that my celebrations have already begun.EMOTICON:SMILE1]]
Joy-where are you today? Time to check in.
Mel-I hope our little angel is feeling much better. Welcome to parenthood. The hard times are hard, but the good times make it all worth while.
April-two more days, and the waiting will be over. You will probably feel like a new woman.
Amazingrace-I know you are having a ball with those grandkids.
Have a great evening. Greg, thanks for our beautiful new home. We sure out grow them quickly.
Mel-Than you so much for the album. I loved it. I finally got to see Joy's beautiful family. It is good to see us all together. We can look at the album, and pretend to be together in real life.
Jersey- You sure have everyone fooled! None of us wanted to step in here until you had looked around and gave it your blessing. Mel, didnt know how possessive you are of these new digs. Mel thank you for the new pictures, my hubby came in while I was looking at all the pics and I had to tell him who everyone was. My little grand daughter was here yesterday, the one that is close in age to Cecilia, they had managed to scrape enough hair back to make a couple of little pigtails. She looked so cute and like a toddler. I told my daughter that when she had another baby (no we aren't announcing anymore grandbabies at this point) that would be when Katie would seem like she had grown a whole bunch over night. I love how roomy this new place is and so easily accessible. Just wish Greg would stop in on occasion. Everyone have a good evening.
by april (PM , CC ) on Monday July 7, 2008 @ 6:46 PM
April, You were around when our Greg was here. I miss him too.
Mel, Thank you so much for the pictures. I LOVE them..Best gift I received in a long time. If someone have told me a year ago that I would be on a blog with people from all over the world, different ages, and life styles and loving it so much, I would have told them they were crazy. I care deeply about each and every one of you. We are a great group of people and I am going to give ourselves a huge round of applause. THank you again, Sweetie for the pictures.
Oh me oh my! Mel, what an expression of love you have given us all. Thank you for taking the time to give us all a giant group hug. You amaze me. A fussy baby and computer skills...your husband got a real find.
Hurst was Rachel's date/friend for a PDC dance. He is not my son! Ted (if any of you got the one of him ripping a phone book-I know, such talent) is my son. And my heart, I must say. Not that Rachel isn't, but boys and girls are SO different. That mother/son relationship can kill us or make us stronger! Rachel is having a fit that Hurst has made it into the album! He is a really nice kid, however.
Anyway, if I send it to you again, Mel, could you include Ted in the album?
Had a decent day. It's really hot and humid here again. Storms tonight. We are taping the Bachelorette finale and will watch it in a few minutes.
I'm thinking about you all. Surgery, kitchens, daughters, grandkids, new homes, etc... I'm hoping only good news comes this week for you all. And, it was so nice for me to finally see Amazing and Dennis.
Have a nice night everyone. I'll check in tomorrow. Marty, H A P P Y......you'll have to wait for the rest!
by Joy (PM , CC ) on Monday July 7, 2008 @ 10:06 PM
Joy, I thought Hurst was your son also.
Off to work..Another busy day. After the office being closed for a week, we are going nuts Wonder if its worth it to be off if you have to work like maniacs to catch up.Patients just walking in without appointments and of I course I have to be the one to convince them that we can make an appointment in a day or so and it bothers the heck out of me and I worry what if something will happen to them before their appointment. My receptionist had 2 "Hissie fits" yesterday and had to leave the area to calm down.I hope she even shows up today. She is 46 years old and usually has no problem handling her job. I hope today is a little better.Have a nice day everyone. Was it yesterday I said I love my job or was it some other lunatic
Good morning, my friends. It is a nice morning here, in good ole Tennessee.
Jim got on the computer last night and mapquested our whole trip, except the condo. My daughter hasn't sent us the address yet for it. On the way up to Evansville we will be stopping by my youngest daughter's new home. She is looking forward to showing it off. I am anxious to see it, but more anxious to see those precious grandsons. I have not seen them since November. I have got to go shopping. You know that Grandmama must bring presents when she comes.
Its time to eat breakfast, so I will check in after work, if not before.
Hi to all! Nice to be able to log in! I tried to post the other day and it would not let me. I typed this nice post to everyone and it would not go through.
Jersey - I know what you are going through. I like when someone would call the office 5 mins. before closing on a Friday and say that they had this itch (I worked for an GYN) for 3 weeks and they need to be seen today. When we would say that we were leaving for the day they would flip out. Most time the doctor was already gone, they would want us to page her!
Marty- I feel for you. I have not seen my granddaughter for 6 months, I am cherrishing every moment with her. Tomorrow is her 3rd birthday. I can't believe they are 3 already. Kyleigh is pulling herself up on furniture and she is only 8 months. She has fallen a couple of times and gotten hurt.
Mel- enjoyed the byetta album. Hope the baby is feeling better. I hate when they are so small and sick. They can not tell you whats wrong!
April- I will be praying for you tomorrow. After the kitchen is done and the grandkids are gone I am going to to back to my orthopedic and see what is up with my back and right knee. I had the left one operated on 15 years ago and that one only bothers me once and a while.
Joy- I feel bad for you and your marriage situtation. I thank God my husband is basically good. He has his quirks, but don't we all!
Mel, what a great idea and gift you have made for everyone. I must say I was a little confused at that first picture. I thought some paparazzi had snuck up on me sunbathing and taken my picture, but then the closer I looked at the eyes, I realized it wasn't me but some other lizard they caught! The more I work with computers, the more I realize the Bible saying "a little child shall lead them" is so true, especilly in this techno age. Our baby showed her savvy for all of us. Thanks, Mel. And I loved Cecilia's little picture. She's a beauty and she looks like Mama. Joy, I thought Hurst was your son also. Add a picture of your son because I never saw the one with the phone book. Smarty, Marty - send that private jet around and gather us up for your graduatin ceremony! Wouldn't that be a hoot! We'd all embarrass you with our shouting. Did you all know that my city is the city that put the people in jail for making noise at graduation. For real; it made the news all around the nation. So I'm a semi-star by association. Catch you later, gaters.
by GinnySC (PM , CC ) on Tuesday July 8, 2008 @ 9:42 AM
Glad you all enjoyed the album and thank you for your compliments. I know a few cheap tricks. Its mostly smoke and mirrors. LOL.. :> I am happy there is a way where we can all hold the pictures of all of us. Like I put in my email I'm happy to up load any new pictures you all want to add and I'm happy to give you the password to that account so you can load your own if you want. I would even be happy to walk you though how to do it.
It is amazing the friendship that we have all found in one another.. and that we are happy to extend to any others that read this and maybe don't feel like they want to chime in or are afraid to ask. There are fewer kind and decent people out there that we meet on a daily basis. Its refreshing to have found such a positive, fun, caring, safe place to interact and get to know the big hearted and amazing people that come here for friendship and help. Its entirely my pleasure.
Joy I'm very sorry about not including your son's picture. I thought I had Ted's picture in the group of pictures with your daughter and her date. I have found Ted's picture of him ripping a phone book and it is up there now. By the way, can he really rip a phone book?
April, I'm thinking and praying for your surgery to go smooth and be the answer that you are needing for that aching knee.
Jersey, good luck with your loaded day.
Marty, very excited for your up coming events. Glad your hubby is taking care of your traveling maps. I do the same for our trips when we have to drive in unfamiliar territory. Makes you wonder what we ever did before the computer.
Ginny, I would so be locked up time and time again. That's crazy, but what do you do right?
Amazing, glad your having so much fun with the babies. xoxoxo to all.
by april (PM , CC ) on Tuesday July 8, 2008 @ 4:24 PM
Ginny, When I opened Mel's album, I thought it was you on the cover too I was jealous of you but then realized that you deserved the cover. You are hysterical. I really enjoy your posts. Maybe Marty can come and get us in her jet. She brags about the fancy thing.Bet she doesn't even have one.
Amazing, Happy to see you back. I bet that you are exhausted from all you weekend hugs
April, Good luck.. You will be fine and up and around in no time.
Mel, I forgot to mention how adorable Cecilia is. God I can just take that gorgeous little face and kiss it forever. Her Mommy & Daddy are not bad either. Loved the little boy in the pool's hair.
Marty, Hmmm just one tiny post from you today. I guess you are to busy with your rootin-tootin "college friends". THats ok. You'll be back to your boring "lizard Friends" after your big graduation. Don't forget to buy a BIG push-up bra for your big, fancy day On second thought, maybe you shouldn't because you wouldn't be able to see the steps and you might trip
Jersey-I do have a jet. They just spelled it wrong on the back of it. Some one put Jetta on it, and a big VW on the front. But it flies pretty good, and it gets 50 miles per gallon. Guess what. I have only met twenty students from my soon to be alma mater. I attended only one class. The rest I did on-line or through the mail. I don't even know if any of the people I met are graduating with me. We all exchanged e-mail addresses, but I only heard from one of them one time. So see, I would rather hang out with fellow lizards. How was work today? As bad as yesterday? I thought about you, the few minutes I had to think about anything.
April-you will be in our thoughts and prayers tomorrow. Let us know how things go as soon as you feel up to it.
Ginny-glad you checked in today. We miss you when you don't check in.
Amazingrace-I am glad you are enjoying the babies. I can hardly wait to see my young ones next week.
Guess I had better think about dinner. Like I read on here the other night, I have thought, and I am not cooking. I am tired, and I want something good. so I am going to get off, and see what Hubby would like to go out for.
Jersey, you are in FINE form today!! I only have a broomstick on which to fly.
Mel, thanks for adding Ted to the album. Yes, he really ripped a phone book! Can't handle finishing Calculus, but logged many hours at the frat house learning that party trick -among others I'm sure. There is one picture I saw of him on facebook where they were crowd surfing him around the frat house. We have since been blocked from his page so we can't spy on him!
Hey S(Marty)--be careful driving. I've seen about a zillion cops out lately. Do you have your birthday suit ready for tomorrow?
April, best wishes for tomorrow with your knee. Make them give you good pain drugs just in case. Try to keep the gown closed. Seriously, I'm sure you will be so glad that you have taken care of yourself.
I went to acupuncture today and he put a magnet on my breast and one on the bikini line. Trying to capitalize on my magnetism I guess. I have sore muscles almost all over my body. Rachel teased me that he just wanted to take a peek. EEW.
by Joy (PM , CC ) on Tuesday July 8, 2008 @ 5:56 PM
Joy, You are right. I am in rare form today. I'm very interested in your magnets. If you hubby comes home and he happens to have them on--Holy Cow. You guys will fly across the house and smack into each others bodies That should get him to talk to you.. I hope the kids will be out tonight Opps, speaking of Hubbies, I just heard the garage door opener. I have to run downstairs and make it seem like I have been slaving over a hot stove, not pounding the computer keys. Have a nice night
Joy-Don't need the b-day suit until Friday. I am afraid its a little wrinkled, and I probably can't get the wrinkles ironed out.
Jersey-I have to wear a push up bra, so nothing sags to the knees. Oh, the pull of gravity sure hits hard. Thank goodness the fancy gown will cover up the flaws. I will finally have a lovely hat of my own, and you will even get to see my picture in it. See, I'm not selfish, not matter what you may think.
If there are any newbies thinking about coming aboard, Jersey and I are not serious with the barbs we send each other. Don't be afraid to come on board, and ask any questions you may have about Byetta. We are here to try and help. I read the posts for a couple of weeks before I ever posted myself. I found some really great people. We consider ourselves friends, even though we have never met each other. We welcome any spit users (or in Mel's case, past spit users).
I think I will go keep hubby company. . Have a good evening.
Hmmm, well I was going to comment also on the wrinkled birthday suit but you beat me too it, SMarty Marty. However, SMarty, that's only because you lost so much weight. Let's not try to iron it though, it's not the right way to get tan marks. I haven't lost as much weight so I'm still fluffed out, very few wrinkles, and smooth as a baby's butt. (Ok, Jersey, I just gave you an open line to use there somewhere.....)
Joy, you talked me out of acupuncture. I'm particular about who sees my floppies and no one gets near my bikini line, even if they could find it.
April, of course good luck tomorrow, we'll be thinking of you around 2 PM. Hope you can still type while on drugs but we promise we'll be able to understand you. You'll have to find some way to get propped up to the computer so we know you're alright. AmazingGrace, you've been too quiet. Probably back in your kitchen finishing up the doors. Marty, it's a good think you mentioned Byetta, or we'd have to be evicted from our home. It brought us together and we joke around but all still have a serious disease that we need to look out for. I'm doing a poor job of being an inspiration to anyone except to say that I've learned a lot from these ladies and men (who used to be part of our group). Guru Dennis can answer any questions. We can have fun, but I had better get back to being serious about diabetes. G'night ladies. April, I hope you get a good night's sleep and don't think about tomorrow. Hugs to everyone.
by Ginny SC (PM , CC ) on Tuesday July 8, 2008 @ 8:20 PM
Jersey-what happened to your early morning drop-by? Did it scare you off to find out that I really have a Jet(ta)? See, my true colors are coming out. I am a smarty pants.
Ginny-I am glad to know that there is a reason for the wrinkled b-day suit. I thought I hung it up to dry, and didn't reshape it. I just can't seem to behave this morning.
One of my friends brought me a b-day gift yesterday. she brought me a very nice candle, a book of inspirational sayings, and a journal. I opened the journal last night to leaf through it, when I noticed a note on the fly page. It read, "This journal belongs to my friend Deborah Mc ..... I have a sister named Debra, but it sure isn't my name. I called my friend, and told her that she had given me Deborah's journal )this Deborah is a mutual friend of ours). Debbie, the woman that gave me the gift also bought me a gift we a gift last year that gave everyone a laugh. She thought she had given me an initial mug. She just saw a big mug with a big "M" on it. She didn't check the back of the mug which said, "..stands for Mom, not maid". I love this woman to death...she is such a ditz.
by Laura (PM , CC ) on Wednesday July 9, 2008 @ 11:18 AM
Laura-glad you dropped by with your question. They Byetta isn't as effective if you don't begin eating within the first hour. If you will go to some of the old pages, Dennis has given the scientific reasoning behind this. How long have you been on the spit? Are you on five or ten? Drop back in and tell us your story. We get off topic a lot around here, but its only because most of us have been on the spit for a while. We here here to help anyone we can, and always glad to welcome a newbie. I have been on the Byetta almost two and a half years. I have gone from using 110 units of insulin a day to using 22 units per day. Most of the Byetta users are on Metformin, and possibly other oral meds. If you have any more questions, just ask, or if you just want to get to know all of us crazies, just keep posting.
Hi Laura, if you don't eat within an hour, then the Byetta loses its effectiveness. Also several of us get nauseated if we don't eat within the hour. If you don't have that problem, then that's great.
I'm sure you'll have a lot more of us chime in with advice for you. Believe me, this is an informed group. Everything I know about Byetta I've learned from this group. Thanks for signing in. We are always supportive and happy to see new friends.
by GinnySC (PM , CC ) on Wednesday July 9, 2008 @ 11:46 AM
Hi Laura- so glad you stopped by and didnt let these SMARTY pants scare you off. Its best to take the spit and eat within an hour as that is when you get the best effect. Go ahead and eat after the hour is up you just may have more of a desire to eat. You will get more thoughts and lots of good advice from all the people that frequent this blog.
by Mel_Smith (PM , CC ) on Wednesday July 9, 2008 @ 12:29 PM
April-I was surprised to see your post. I thought you wold already be at the hospital, getting ready for relief for that knee. My friend, you are really in my prayers today. Certainly hope the surgery doesn't play havoc with your sugar. Sending you a cyber hug. As soon as you feel up to it let us know how things went.
Mel-I am so glad you included every one as SMARTIES. We all have our hidden knowledge, and let it slip out once-in-a-while. Of course, we have learned a lot of it from Dennis and Greg. How is our baby girl now? Is she over her sickness? Guess you don't have any announcements for us, do you? We are all waiting to know when we are going to have a new "grandbaby".
Joy-where are you? We worry when our friend get quiet. We're afraid they have disappeared. That happens from time to time, and w miss them when they are gone.
Cristib-we miss hearing from you. I wish 2fungran would drop by for a chat. Our men have all disappeared. We know that Dennis is busy with his blog in England, and sharing his wisdom. I am glad that he is helping the diabetics in England to better grasp their disease, but we really miss him over here. Greg is busy, too. We really appreciate the fact he started this blog, and has kept us suppled with new homes. Lizards can't stay in the same room for too long. I guess we aren't as neat as we should be.
Well, I had better get off, and get ready to go pick up a sandwich tray and veggie tray. We are feeding our youth group tonight, and snowing them an old Ingrid Bergman movie called, }Inn of the Sixth Happiness". It is about an amazing missionary woman's experiences in China. Hope you all have a wonderful afternoon.
Marty, thanks for asking about the baby. She is doing better every day. Started to get better Sunday and has continued on from there. From what others here in my circle of contact have said it is something that was going around. A summer flu like bug. Poor kid, if only I could understand the babble. So cute. No announcements yet, but we are hoping and working towards one soon. Next month or two. Better go ahead while I don't have the knowledge to say no. LOL. Kidding. I couldn't allow her to be an only child. I'm from a family of 7 kids and I loved it. I found my big phat love later in life so we won't be trying for a similar number, at least not from my body. Hope your evening goes good and they enjoy your generosity.
by Mel_Smith (PM , CC ) on Wednesday July 9, 2008 @ 4:54 PM
Thanks everyone for answering my question. I have been on the 10 mg. spit since 2006. I have eaten religiously within the hour after taking it and never knew what would happen if I didn't eat within the hour. So thanks again for answering my question.
by Laura (PM , CC ) on Wednesday July 9, 2008 @ 6:32 PM
Hi, Laura April was exactly right. We wait until close to an hour for Byetta to work at its best. It also help you to eat less if you wait. We do go off topic quite often, but we are all Byetta users and want to help you all that we can. In fact, it would be good to get back to helping newbies. Welcome to our corner
April, I hope that your surgery went well and expect to hear from you in a day or two. When you will be back in your old crazy self.
Marty, I got up a little late and then had to run in circles to get ready. I am up early and when the alarm has to wake me, it a rough start. This weather is making my hair crazy. I have a huge blond afro and it is standing out a foot all around my hear. It looks like a yellow helmet. Of course my Dan likes it has has been chasing me around the house and yard for 5 days. I'm slightly winded I heard from the Doctor on my blood test last night. One of the special Metanepherine test were normal and the other was elevated. He did not want to make my crazy so he said that we would wait and discuss it when I see him on 8/1. My Hgba1c was 5.2, my FBS was 100. That part was all great. I have to go and make dinner again late, Lover Boy will be home in 20 minutes. Sometimes I think I made a mistake marrying a younger guy. He poops me out.
by Jersey Girl (PM , CC ) on Wednesday July 9, 2008 @ 7:18 PM
Jersey-you have me beat on the A!C. Mine is 5.5. This time last year it was 4.9. My doctor didn't like it being that low. He is happy with my numbers now. You are right. It would be good to have some newbies with questions for us. It makes me behave better when I am trying to educate others.
April-hope you are doing o.k. I have thought of you so much today, and am still praying for you.
Mel-glad the baby is feeling more like herself. It is so hard on the baby, and the parents, when the little one is feeling lousy.
My brother called me today. He fell Sunday and broke his nose. He has a large nose anyway, and he says now it is huge and purple. My brother is a clown for the Shriners. His clown name is Flower. He probably doesn't have to use his clown nose now. We had a laugh about it, but I am sure it wasn't funny when it happened. He was knocked out cold for a while. I am sure it is still painful.
Time to take my final insulin shot for the day, and get ready for bed. Will check in tomorrow.
Hi everyone! I just so happened to be the very last patient of the day that was operated on. Things are going well (so far) when i woke up my knee was just a throbbing and I was wondering what I had gotten myself into. My oxygen kept taking nose dives when i would fall asleep in recovery so they kept me there for quite some time. I finally got hom e about 9:30 pm. It wasa a long day, I had a cup of apple juice at 9 thins morning and finally about 8:45 this evening I got to have a fig newton. The blood sugar stayed fairly even. Just got sick to my stomach while I was sitting here. Better go. I am doing well.

April, Sweetie thank you for checking in. I had one eye opened and logged on hoping to see that you posted. I am so happy that it went well and that you are ok. Today you will see that it was worth it. I will be thinking of you
by Jersey Girl (PM , CC ) on Thursday July 10, 2008 @ 7:06 AM
Hi Mel, Sorry for the delay in replying. Yes, son No.2 thoroughly enjoyed his day at Silverstone and managed to stay dry - they had seats in one of the covered grandstands. He intends to be there again next year for the last-ever Silverstone F1 Grand Prix. They are switching it to Donnington Park from 2010 onwards, and that probably marks the end of the road for the historic Silverstone track. Without the income from the F1 weekend I doubt whether they can survive financially. But we did manage to survive our 2 days of non-stop grandparenting, although it was nice to get back to work for a rest! Also many thanks Mel for putting together the photo album. I guess that makes you our official "keeper of the mug-shots". Brains as well as beauty.
Thanks to all for answering Laura while I wasn't around - see, you don't really need me. I guess we have all been on Byetta long enough to be classed as expert patients by now.
Someone asked a while back about the new weekly dose. The Amylin website hasn't been updated since they announced the start of Phase 2 trials back in 2006, but with a bit of research I have found that they have some problems with finding an appropriate delivery mechanism. To cut a very long explanation short, for anyone who is interested in the story here is a link to a Financial Times article on it. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/b4b5e12a-37e6-11dd-aabb-0000779fd2ac,dwp_uuid=e8477cc4-c820-11db-b0dc-000b5df10621.html
I hope you are all getting better weather than we are. Ever since the Wimbledon final last Sunday we have had more rain than sun - so a typical British summer really!
I'd better get back to what they pay me for before someone notices that what I am typing isn't a business report. Stay good all of you.

Dennis-So glad you popped in for a visit. We all love it when you post. We will always need you.
April=glad you are doing o.k. Hopefully, when the surgical pain is over you won't have any more problems with that knee.
My little Cupcake gave us a scare last night. While we were at church, she and Jackson, the Jack Russell Terrier, got up on the table, and helped themselves to a whole package of hubby's chocolate marshmallow cookies. fortunately they threw them up, but they ruined my living room carpet. We will try cleaning it with a steam cleaner. If that doesn't work, I guess we will change the flooring in the living room. Maybe we will just have the hardwood floors redone. I love our hardwood floors, but carpet was warmer when I had little ones playing on the floor. My father-in-law handpicked every piece of hardwood that wen into the floors, when he built this house in 1965. Hardwood was in then, and is again now.
I must start getting ready for my lunch at the tea house. The only time we could get in was 11:15. This tea house is in a pre-Civil War Hotel. It has the original floors, and is quite unique. some of my friends and I love to find these type of places to visit for special occasions.
Jersey-hope your day wasn't too bad today. I love the mental picture of your hair in a "fro".
Hello All, I have been reading the blog for 8-9 months now and have always talked myself out of joining in the conversations. Notice I say conversations not comments because I feel that everyone is talking to each other just like that person was sitting across from you on the couch at home and not sitting at a computer monitor. Anyhow……….I am in Alabama, work at home doing medical billing for a M.D. in Texas, married for 32 years with one child-a daughter that just recently got married. I have been on Byetta since November 2007 after being on Avandamet for several years. Avandamet controlled my diabetes great but caused me to gain about 25 pounds. After asking my PCP to consider changing medications she suggested Byetta. My first reaction was no way I want to do an injectionable medication “too much like insulin which would mean that I was a “bad” diabetic vs just diabetic” We tried several different oral medication with no success so she finally convinced me to try the Byetta. Started Byetta 5mg end of October or first of November without any oral medication, not too much nausea etc but not great control of my sugars. Went on 10mg 3rd month without much difference but lots more nausea. After calling my M.D. and she suggesting insulin I asked if we could not try with oral medication with Byetta. She agreed and called in Metformin 1000mg AM/PM. Had much better numbers almost immediately but still have dawn effect with first BS of the day. When blood sugars went down and stayed down I went back on 5mg and continued with good results. My HgbA1C went from 6.1 to 7.1 and is now back down to 6.2. I have lost 20lbs but nothing lately because I admit I cheat and take my shot and eat immediately so that I can enjoy my food. When I was taking shot and waiting I was not eating much and really not enjoying food too much. Still eat a lot less but do not have the appetite suppression that you have when you wait. I am happy with 20lbs,would like to get rid of a few more but no ones fault but my own that I haven’t lost more. I have been coming to the blog from the beginning and feel like I know you all personally. I have been on cruises with Jersey and shared her worries over her daughter and grandchildren, trips with Dennis and learned so much from him, birthdays, in-laws, and races with Mel, worried over school, dress shopping & Jimbo with Marty and gone through Amazing’s mom surgery, BS lows, and kitchen remodeling, April’s back and now knee problems and saw Ginny and Joy coming abroad and being welcomed with open arms and becoming part of the family immediately. I have started probably 25 times to take the plunge and sign on but then I chicken out. I have finally decided that I can not go any longer without putting faces with names and Mel’s new album sounds wonderful. I am hoping that after you see that I am not some crazy person out here in internet land that you will be willing to share it with me and I can share a picture or two with ya’ll. Sorry this is so long but I had a lot to say after all this time. Peace, Turtlegirl’s Mom
Good morning, well almost noon. So happy to see Dennis drop in. We sure to love the guy, don't we? He's like the anchor of sensibility to our nonsense.
April, you are a love to drop in at 1 a.m. just to let us know you come through okay. Sounds like a very long day. Now after a good sleep, you'll be feeling better. This stormy weather may make it ache a little extra. Is that an old wives' tale? I know I ache so much I can't distinguish any more the rain from the sun in my bones. Just glad it's over for you, April.
After hearing all the good A1c reports, I'm thinking I had better get back on the ball. My endo visit is Aug 7 and I don't think he'll be pleased. Bad girl, bad girl. Why is it so hard to eat sensibly when I know it's so bad for my body. Jersey your glorious blonde Afro only adds to your charm. We've had five days of horrible afternoon storms here in the Carolinas, so I too look like the bride of Frankenstein from the humidity and static electricity in the air. I just gave up and let my perm fly today and try to avoid mirrors. We need the rain, so I'm not complaining, but these storms are scarey. Getting a new computer at work, so I may not post until tonight. Glad the Cecilia is getting better, which means Mel is getting more rest. Keep healin' and wheeling everyone.

Turtlegirl's mom-Welcome aboard the lizard Spit Express. I am one of the ones that is on insulin and Byetta, but have had great result, as you know if you have been reading that long. I know your fears. I, too, would talk myself out of posting from fear that I had nothing to add. Oh, you could have been sharing with us all of this time. We love newbies. They make us be on good behavior for a while, but since you have been reading that long you already have seen our true colors. This is a great group of people. Its amazing how you can bond with someone you have never met, and it is great when you have a face to put with the person. That's our baby girl, Mel's department. Sounds like you are doing well on the spit.
Ginny-just a few mire days, and I'll not only be old, I'll be intelligent.
I just got back from my luncheon, and it was great. the food was good, the company pleasant, and then there were gifts. How much better could it get? Only one way I could think of...if my lizard buddies could have been there.
April-I hope your pain level isn't too bad. You have been on my mind today. Take care, my friend. Don't push too hard.
I am off to shop. Got to pick up a few things for my graduation trip next wek. I have so much to do between now and then. Catch ya'll later.
Hi Turtlegirl's Mom! Don't know why we all read for so long before we decide to post. I have found this blog to be the real highlight of most of my days. Glad you came aboard.
Dennis, even though we have never really talked, I'm always glad to hear your information. Watched tennis all weekend and was enthralled like usual. Thought it was cool that you live so close to where I have visited.
April, I'm glad you are on your way to recovery now. Let the others pamper you and milk it for all it's worth! Sometimes people can't really tell if you're "fake sleeping" tee hee! Heal quickly, our dear friend.
Marty, glad you had a nice lunch. You know we would all love to show up and sing for you!
Big haired ladies, unite. Mine goes flat in the humidity and I look like a dripping wet poodle. Little Rachel of mine has hair that curls up like a spinning top as soon as it even pretends to get humid. We've had storms every night this week too.
I tried to post last night, but lost it and then got too tired and hit the sack. Have a great afternoon everyone, and I'll check back in later tonight.
by Joy (PM , CC ) on Thursday July 10, 2008 @ 3:34 PM
I've been meaning to post all am and have been side tracked with other duties.
April, thanks for giving us a shout. Hope you continue the road to recovery every second of every day.
Jersey, congrats on the lowered A1C. Very good for such a bad girl... Sorry your hair is giving you fits. Mine is the same all the time. Straight and Straighter. I would die for a bend, a kink, a shoe print even... LOL. :>
Marty, sounds like your tea and luncheon was great. Too bad about your bro's nose. That's a real downer but funny about him not needing the clown kit.
Laura, sounds like most of your experience on byetta has been pretty good. Any little thing these people know it. I even forget some things I should have known and they are kind enough to respond even if they have told me before.
Dennis, glad things went so well for watching the grandkids and for your son viewing the races as well. I will pass that info onto my husband. He might not know they are switching tracks. I also printed out that article that I am looking forward to reading. Thank you again for your info.
Turtlegirl's mom - welcome aboard. Thank you for the brief run down of your situation and experience on the byetta. Glad that you were willing to give the byetta, metformin and us a try. Even better that the byetta and metformin are working for you. Now if we work as well for you then even better. As for the picture sharing and viewing. You will need to email me your picture and my picture is listed under my profile if you click on my name it will take you there. As for viewing the pictures that we have collected so far I will need your email address or I can send you a private message with the link. Let me know which is easier for you. If you would prefer the email but don't want to post it on this site your welcome to send me a private message which you can get to by clicking contact after you have gone to my profile. Fun that you decided to join in the fun. We are always happy to have more people out here. You do know us well. Thanks for giving us a chance to know you better.
Ginny, good luck with the new computer, they are usually a pain at first but so good that they can upgrade them.
Joy, you made me laugh with your suggestion on fake sleeping. Good tip, I'll have to try it more often. Your daughters hair is gorgeous by the way.
by Mel_Smith (PM , CC ) on Thursday July 10, 2008 @ 3:50 PM
Hey, Turtlegirl's Mom. I also take the 10 and Metformin 1000mg with my evening meal. I'm like you and often eat right away. Normally only because I'm on my way somewhere and have never been good at regular meals. I only had very very mild nausea for a couple days. Usually at night. I have an iron stomach, and it takes a near death experience (like childbirth) to vomit. Even then I managed to hold on!
Mel, you crack me up-tire print!! Yeah, Rachel has no idea how good she's got it. Killer size 0 or 2 body and a rack that Hooters would die for. And good hair! I tell her all the time she should enjoy it while she's got it!
by Joy (PM , CC ) on Thursday July 10, 2008 @ 4:49 PM
Welcome to the new turtle-person among the lizards. Always room for more friends. But what horrors to think that real people are reading about us all. Oh my, and we are not even behaving sometimes. It's that Jersey that stirs us all up and makes up naughty...and April, and Grace, and Marty, and Joy. We straighten up and behave for Dennis. Computer is back up at work by 5 pm but with the new softward, my screens are a mess. Was glad to see they didn't lose up my shortcut to Lizard Spit buddies. Glad you had a good luncheon, Marty, being with friends is always good and of course lunch is even better, the gifts are a bonus. Get that birthday suit ready girl, Isn't your birthday tomorrow? I think you said the 11th. Glad someone is inching closer to my age. Happy B Day, SMarty Marty the Grad-U-Ate! Mel, missed you for a couple days. Joy, you're not so bad yourself, sweetie. Where do you think Rachel got all the looks. Grace is still missing and is that April I hear snoring? Hope she's doing well. Later, gaters.
by Ginny SC (PM , CC ) on Thursday July 10, 2008 @ 8:55 PM
Ginny-Yup, just a few more hours and I will officially be an old person, according to my hubby. Age is a number, not a feeling. With graduation just around the corner, I am feeling like a young whippersnapper. Next month may be a different story. Hubby is feeling old, because his fifty year high school reunion is coming up in October.
Joy-Glad you have been posting today. I think my rack became a pendulum. I went bra shopping today, but didn't have any luck Ashley told me to go to Kohl's and try a Vera Wang. Guess I'll do that tomorrow.
Jersey-You are being awfully quiet. How are things going with your daughter. How is Emily? I worry about them.
Joy and Ginny-we have been having storms every evening, too. We need the rain, but I would prefer a nice steady rain instead of these storms.
April-hope this has been a good day for you. Take it easy, my friend.
I will try and check in tomorrow morning. Its gong to be a busy day. I am getting my hair colored, and have a big celebration for b-day tomorrow evening. Have a good night, fellow lizards.
thank you everyone for all your thoughts and prayers. I'm feeling really good. I think the pain with the operation is less than it was before the operation. They found a couple of tears some stuff floating around and a rough patella. they lasered some stuff off and snipped here and there and I think the dr did a really good job. I am so thankful for modern medicine. Marty I want to wish you a happy birthday and many more. Age is just a number and you'll continue to be young at heart. Laura it is always good to get new blood in here and glad to have you on board. I had a lot of friends stop by today. A couple of them brought lunch by and spent an hour or so with me. They are always a hoot. Jersey where are you? Hope all is well. I'll try and check in again tomorrow.

Hello to all-
April- Glad to hear that all went well with your knee. I had the same problem every time i would dose off they would wake me and tell me to breath! They blamed it on my asthma.
Denis- My sil was over in England for the tennis games. He was asked to edit for ESPN Sport. He came back on Saturday. He loved over there and wants to go back again soon with the family.
Marty- Happy Birthday, it is offically Friday. Have a great day! I will be thinking about you the reat of the day. When do you leave for gradutation. We will all surly miss you when you are gone.
Jersey Glad your blood work came back ok. Will the have to check it again? My granddaughter Abigail is suffering not with bladder infections, but she is getting uric acid crystals in her urine. Her primary is trying to help by having her drink lots of water. Now he wants to try bicrita. I told my daughter that she should take her to pediatric urogolist, and not fool with the primary. I feel so bad for her, when she is having a bout with them it acts like you have a bladder infection. At 3 years old that is not fun.
Monday I go for my bloodwork and on friday of next week I have a doctors appt. for the results.
This week I have been having alot of lows. Not really low but in the 65-70 range. Enough to make you feel bad. Twick this week I forgot my pm shot. Now that my doc has me taking the shot right before I eat, I just forgot to take it. Yesterday I went back to the hour then eat. I was still have lows doing it before so why bother. Taking it and waiting the hour is so much better.
Well I am getting tired again, so I will go back to bed and try to finish out the night.
Good morning, Lizard Land. I guess Cupcake didn't want me to miss one minute of today. we went to bed at 12:30, and she wanted me to see the sunrise. Hubby was so excited about the gift he bought me that he gave it to me last night. He got me a cute little plum colored Nikon S210 camera. I just hope its not too fancy for me. I have to have something that is point and shoot.
April-was glad to see that you are doing so well. Just keep it up. Don't do too much too soon. Let everyone wait on you.
Amazing- Is your daughter still there? Isn't it great to have her for a few days, but don't those days just fly by. I will be seeing my two grandsons next Thursday. I can hardly wait. I went shopping yesterday to get them a surprise. Can't go empty-handed.
Well, I had better go see where Cupcake disappeared to, and what she is getting into. Have a great day.
by Joy (PM , CC ) on Friday July 11, 2008 @ 2:41 PM
Had a really good birthday. Lots of cards and gifts and phone calls. We went to dinner with my oldest daughter, her future husband, his parents, Ashley and her husband, and little Noah. Of course the servers sang to me. No word from Jimbo. He knew it was my b-day, as he talked to Ashley this morning. It didn't spoil my day, though. I was treated so special all day, that I felt like a princess. Loved playing with my pretty little camera. Jim and I get free camera classes at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga with the camera. we are going to take advantage of it. Jim loves photography, and has a professional model camera. This may give us a new hobby to do together.
Hope all of you had a nice day. Jersey, you are being very quiet. Hope all is well.
Time to get ready for bed. sleep well, my friends.
Hi Guys, Its beautiful weather here in Central NJ and I have been spending a lot of time outside. Dan took off yesterday so we hung around the pool and went out to dinner. Actually it was a perfect day.
Marty, I'm so happy that you had a great day. I love it when Dan put a lot of thought into a gift and he is excited to give it to me. It seems to make the gift even more special. The camera sounds great and I'm sure you will learn how to take beautiful pictures. It can become quite a hobby. I, myself am terrible with cameras. I seem to cut heads off. I am let down by Jimbo. I thought of him a couple of times yesterday and expected him to pop in, even if it was just for a few minutes. I'm sure he will stop by in the next few days. We all know that he is the kind of guy that doesn't like to be told what to do and him coming by on you actual B Day would be doing that. THe "$70 thing", still has me knowing he is a good guy and on the right track.
Amazingrace, When my older grand daughter was young she also was diagnosed kidney stones. She was a huge milk drinker/cheese eater and that was cut back right away. She has not had a problem in 11 years. There is a great pediatric Urologist in EB. She really should see a pediatric one. I worked for a regular Urologist and he would not see kids under 10.
TurtleGirl'sMom, I am so sorry I missed you wonderful post. On weekends I tend to be stupid. You post was so sweet and I am so sorry that you didn't post sooner. You sound like one of the gang and I would love for you to be here frequently. I never said that before on here. I am a medical person and I know what you go through with medical billing. CPT's--ICD's Yikes where are the good old days where we just said allergy instead of Allergic Rhinitis 465.7, or high blood pressure instead of Hypertension 401.9. It made me so proud to hear you say that you feel like we are all talking to each other in the same room. That is exactly what we want it to seem like. I am sorry though that we mad you feel uncomfortable about sticking your head in here I will gladly forward you the pictures just give me your email address by checking private comment under the post screen and send me an email that that I have your email address. Welcome to the club and do you really have a turtle? I am so happy that you found us
Ginny, You are quiet and than makes me nervous. Yesterday was so quiet, I thought you all were at Marty's party. Remember, Byetta does not cause Paranoia.
April, I bet you are jumping up and down on the trampoline this morning. I just hope now that your knee is fixed you don't find a more active group of friends.
by Jersey Girl (PM , CC ) on Saturday July 12, 2008 @ 8:21 AM
TurtleGirl'sMom, One more thing. I know exactly what you mean by not enjoying your food after taking the shot. I have the same problem. You have to remember that is one of the reasons that we are on Byetta. Metformin is my enemy. I never had a problem with Byetta, but Metformin makes me queasy and makes my stomach churn. I don't take it as I should but seem to be ok without it.My last visit to my doctor he reiterated the fact that wanted me on it and I told him I would restart it and it still does not work for me. I have the dawn effect also and my Endo put me on Amaryl 2mg at bedtime and it brought my FBS down into the 100 range.I put off starting Byetta 2 months exactly for the reason you were afraid to start it. I thought 2 injections a day meant that I was a REAL Diabetic. How stupid was I?! Now it is like bushing my teeth. It just comes naturally. I had to add this because I need to stay "on topic" more. Again, happy to have you here
by Jersey Girl (PM , CC ) on Saturday July 12, 2008 @ 8:35 AM
Jersey=glad to know that you were just hanging with hubby. That is a good reason to be quiet on here.
My middle daughter is in Dallas this weekend, house shopping. They are a little more excited about the move since they found three houses on line that interested them. My s-i-l has to quit his job when they move. He is retired Air Force, and had a job he really liked, but she makes more money, so they didn't want to lose her income. He says his job is just a hobby. It was Civil Service, so he can probably get a good job in Dallas. They will be seven hours closer to us than they are in San Antonio.
This time next Saturday my graduation will almost be over. I can hardly believe tht it is almost here. I just hope my fce dioesn't break from all of the grinning I will be doing.
Ginny-where are you? Is your back giving you so much trouble that you can't stand to sit at the computer? Let us hear from you.
Turtlegirl's mom=come on back and join us. We need new people, as Jersey said we don't stay on topic enough. any other new or long time spit users can drop in, too. We are not exclusive in who can post. If your a diabetic, and want to ask questions, or discuss what you know about the spit come on aboard.
Well, have to get ready to go to a Gold Canyon candle party. Will try and check in later.
Jersey-just wanted to tell you that you were right, AGAIN. Jimbo just called to tell me that he thought of me yesterday, but just didn't call. He's marching to his own drummer. He told me he would see me at the Gold Canyon party. He is bringing Haylee and Haydon, but he is going to fish in Ashley's pond during the party. Gloat, my friend tht you have Jimbo pegged.
What's a Gold Canyon party? Is there gold in hills I don't know about? If it's a home party that sells candles I don't need to know. Sometimes I think I should hang out a shingle that says "Ginny's Gifts." I've been to too many home shows in my 45 yrs of marriage. I just can't seem to say no.
My back is nagging. Guess I just have to learn to live with it like April. I've got to get some lbs. off it and get serious while I'm on Byetta. Maybe I could us a little nausea. New work software had me tied up Friday, took me all morning to figure out how to save an email. Now I've got to figure out how to print a document from Word. I just can't find the icons. Before I knew it it was 11 a.m. and time for our Student Services luncheon. An easy day at work because all I did was visit my new screens. Hopefully Monday will be easier. Teaching an old dog new tricks takes time. Jersey, sounds like a great day with Dan. My Paul just said he was about to take a dip and I told him I'd go out later. Just too humid with no shade right now. We'll both dip together later like the two dips we are. Marty had to laugh at your 'pendulums' I've told the mammogram tech that by next year I should be able to send mine in by themselves. Good that we all get back on Byetta track once in awhile so we can encourge newbies like Turtle's Mom to drop in. I almost forgot that we are all taking daily shots. Hardly thought about Joy being diabetic at all, she never mentioned it either. Hot day in SC, humidity is a killer on breathing. Went to the Dollar Tree store this morning and bought puzzles for teaching my fall class. Interesting to study their critical thinking and leadership qualities while they just thinking we are watching their puzzle solving skills. But it's a fun project to break up the class. Doing laundry, as usual on Saturday, and the load is buzzing. Later.
by Ginny SC (PM , CC ) on Saturday July 12, 2008 @ 2:52 PM
Ginny, You are right its HOT out side. Phew. Just came in for a second and checked the computer. Nothing better than a "double dipper". I guess that is what we are here too. Everyone is on Byetta except for "Our Baby Mel". I do think she is taking time off for a while. It certainly doesn't mean that she is not one of us. I am so happy that she continues to come here even though she is off the med. When she enters the room she just brings sunshine with her. Have a nice day and NO SKINNY DIPPING Marty, I am not at all suprised about Jimbo. He walks to the beat of his own drum and there is something wonderful about that. Tell me about what happens at Ashley's. Wow!!! 65!!! Jim is right you ARE old. I just cracked myself up.
by Jersey Girl (PM , CC ) on Saturday July 12, 2008 @ 4:02 PM
Jersey-Jimbo did not bring Haylee. He came ver a few minutes ago tho pick up some important mail, and told me that Haylee is afraid of me because of things Ashley tells her I am saying about her. The only thing I have been saying was that I would like to get to know her. He said that he is going to marry Haylee, and I said I really needed to get to know her, as Haydon would be my grandson. He said he has tried to convince her to give me a chance to love her, and she would be surprised. So I will pray about that. Ashley doesn't call herself lying, but she embroiders the truth a whole lot. I told Jimbo I would never tell him the things that Ashley told me about Haylee before I ever met her. I finally told Ashley we weren't going to discuss Jimbo or Haylee. That is when I quit being so depressed over his situation.
I think my new pen must be just water. I am always hungry, and my willpower seems to have taken a hike. It is going to be a long month on this pen.
Hubby started his new pen the same day I did. I got tickled at him. He primed his pen, and had the idea that you had to keep doing it until you saw the spit come out. He said,"This stupid pen is empty. There is nothing coming out of it." I went over and looked at the pern and saw a little bubble in it. I told him that it did have something in it. He told me to dial it up and push the plunger, and I would see that it was empty. I dialed it up and pushed the plunger, and the spit came shooting into the air. I said that it worked great. He didn't have his glasses on, and wasted a half a pen. He couldn't see it shooting out. I got my laugh for that day.
Time to think about dinner. Catch you later.
Oh, Ginny, a Gold Canyon party is a candle party. I spent $50 on candles, and I don't even burn them much anymore. I am into reed diffusers.time to go, on that mote.
I have been reading your entries for about the last 2 weeks. I am a new Byetta user and am looking for a little help in understanding more about how Byetta should work. My doctor doesn't seem to know much about it. I think I am doing alright, but am really not sure. I have never experienced the side effects that are described in the literature. I have no more nausea than I ever have. I do feel that it is supressing my appetite somewhat, but not much. I have noticed less swelling in my hands and feet.
I also have noticed more problems with my vision. Does Byetta reduce the amount of tears? My eyes get very tired and sometimes I think they feel sticky. Please let me know if any of you have experienced this. I have had a recent exam by an opthalmologist and new glasses. In fact I had 3 exams because the Dr. could not get a good reading or even a consistant one.
I have had Diabetes for nearly 10 years. When I was diagnosed, my blood sugar level was 760 and I felt horrible. I took insulin for about 5 years. Then, I moved from Denver to Nebraska (the dark hole of the United States) and a doctor here told me I should try taking pill instead of insulin. He prescribed actos. That seemed to work fairly well for about 2 years. Since then, I have gradually had more and more trouble keeping the blood sugar controlled. I have gained a huge amount of weight, which is only making everything worse.
I hope this is making sense. I have never used a blog and I really don't know if I am in the correct place to do this. Thanks for your help.
by Barbara (PM , CC ) on Sunday July 13, 2008 @ 12:45 AM
Good Morning Barbara I have been on Byetta for 27 months. The early months, even year is the time to enjoy the weight loss, so now is the time for your weight loss. It sounds like you have done fairly well on it so far. I have not noticed any eye problems, but since your opthalmologist had a difficult screening with you, I would return to him with the issue of dry eyes. I did notice some edema during the first few months, which did subside. I am curious to what your blood sugar readings are on Byetta. I have a terrible time with Actos, in fact I hate it. I have been on and off it since starting Byetta. My doctor tells me to take it and I promise him I will and then I stop because of the horrible feeling it give me. I know it can cause huge weight gain. Many docors are prescribing Byetta and have no idea of how it actually works. I'm also curious to what strength Byetta you are taking. THe proper protocol is 5 mg. for 1 month and then 10 mg.Thanks for stopping in and please feel free to ask as many questions as you want. Just a warning, Marty, April & Ginny are "problem children" and they act up frequently
Thank you for responding so quickly, Jersey Girl. My blood sugar is much better now. When I started Byetta (5 mcg-about a month ago) I was reaching numbers around 400 every day. Obviously the actos and glyburide combination I was taking were not working very well. I am doing much better now. I practically never get over 185 now and have even seen as low as 70, which never happened after I quit taking insulin and started the actos 5 years ago. I am now well over 100 pounds overweight. To me, that is a huge problem. I feel like the doctors only see dollar signs. We have some really bad medical care here. What problems were you having with Actos. I have taken Metformin, too. I just kept me running to the bathroom. Not a good combination at work. Clients don't appreciate watching me run out of the room.
Another problem I have is knowing what to eat that really helps. I have found if I eat eggs for breakfast I do much better. I don't get the jump in blood sugar like I do with toast or cereal and fruit. I am not crazy about eggs and I am nervous about eating them because I also have high collesterol. What I really need is a maid and a cook around here. A dietician would probably hel
RRRGGG
Most of all, thanks for our free country that we live in and thank you to Greg for the new home. It feels GREAT.
Dennis, I also wanted to see how your son enjoyed the F1 races? My husband recorded it and I saw part of it. Hope your son wasn't too miserable in the rain and hope you survived the grandchildren.
Off to work..Another busy day. After the office being closed for a week, we are going nuts
Ginny and Dennis- Hope that you check in soon.
Aliyah just got up time to spend time with her!
The more I work with computers, the more I realize the Bible saying "a little child shall lead them" is so true, especilly in this techno age. Our baby showed her savvy for all of us. Thanks, Mel.
Joy, I thought Hurst was your son also. Add a picture of your son because I never saw the one with the phone book.
Smarty, Marty - send that private jet around and gather us up for your graduatin ceremony! Wouldn't that be a hoot! We'd all embarrass you with our shouting.
Don't forget to buy a BIG push-up bra for your big, fancy day
April-you will be in our thoughts and prayers tomorrow.
EEW.
Have a nice night everyone.
I'm very interested in your magnets. If you hubby comes home and he happens to have them on--Holy Cow. You guys will fly across the house and smack into each others bodies
Jersey-I have to wear a push up bra, so nothing sags to the knees. Oh, the pull of gravity sure hits hard.
I have to get off, I will check in later.
I'm sure you'll have a lot more of us chime in with advice for you.
Believe me, this is an informed group. Everything I know about Byetta I've learned from this group.
Thanks for signing in. We are always supportive and happy to see new friends.
Its best to take the spit and eat within an hour as that is when you get the best effect. Go ahead and eat after the hour is up you just may have more of a desire to eat. You will get more thoughts and lots of good advice from all the people that frequent this blog.
April, I'm thinking, and hoping, and praying for YOU! I'm sure you'll do great and the doctor will too. Best Wishes.
April, I hope that your surgery went well and expect to hear from you in a day or two.
I'm slightly winded
Sorry for the delay in replying.

I hope you are all getting better weather than we are. Ever since the Wimbledon final last Sunday we have had more rain than sun - so a typical British summer really!
I'd better get back to what they pay me for before someone notices that what I am typing isn't a business report.
Stay good all of you.
Wll, I will try and drop by later.
I have been reading the blog for 8-9 months now and have always talked myself out of joining in the conversations.
Peace,
Turtlegirl’s Mom
Ginny-just a few mire days, and I'll not only be old, I'll be intelligent.
I just got back from my luncheon, and it was great. the food was good, the company pleasant, and then there were gifts. How much better could it get?
April-I hope your pain level isn't too bad. You have been on my mind today.
I am off to shop. Got to pick up a few things for my graduation trip next wek. I have so much to do between now and then. Catch ya'll later.
April, thanks for giving us a shout. Hope you continue the road to recovery every second of every day.
Jersey, congrats on the lowered A1C. Very good for such a bad girl...
Mel, you crack me up-tire print!! Yeah, Rachel has no idea how good she's got it. Killer size 0 or 2 body and a rack that Hooters would die for. And good hair! I tell her all the time she should enjoy it while she's got it!
Mel, missed you for a couple days.
Joy, you're not so bad yourself, sweetie. Where do you think Rachel got all the looks.
Grace is still missing and is that April I hear snoring? Hope she's doing well. Later, gaters.
Joy-Glad you have been posting today. I think my rack became a pendulum.
Everyone have a good day tomorrow!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARTY
April, glad to hear you are feeling better. You'll be as good as new before you know it.
This evening we are off to Illinois for the big 90th birthday party. I'll check in on Sunday night. Have a great weekend.
Hope all of you had a nice day. Jersey, you are being very quiet. Hope all is well.
Time to get ready for bed. sleep well, my friends.
Later.
Marty, I am not at all suprised about Jimbo. He walks to the beat of his own drum and there is something wonderful about that. Tell me about what happens at Ashley's.
Wow!!! 65!!! Jim is right you ARE old.
Time to think about dinner. Catch you later.
Oh, Ginny, a Gold Canyon party is a candle party. I spent $50 on candles, and I don't even burn them much anymore. I am into reed diffusers.time to go, on that mote.
