Good morning,
I am still unsure as to how to access other comments. Each time a new site is entered, I receive an email that we are on blog, 2, blog 3, etc. However, I do not know how to access the comments...and to add comments.

Greg, could you kindly help? Thanks!

Jayne

Greg, Fantastic new home. Thank you very much. You just started such a good thing how could we help but to get chatty over it all. Thanks again, this is the one website that I check first thing.

I can't wait until I get my home computer up and running. I miss you guys on the weekend. Happy to read all the new comments.

Heartgoddess, I'm so sorry to hear about your father. What a rough situation. I would have put on 10lbs so you are doing really good. I agree with the others that once you get back into your routines you will drop it in a minute. You are in my prayers.

Jersey, sorry your fish is not doing well. I would be like you and it would still make me sad. Even it being just a fish.

April, your story was GREAT. I thought I had heard something like it before but it was different. How fun.

Amazing, good to hear that your mother and you are doing so good. Keep up the good work and thanks for letting us know. I was wondering about you all.

Hope everyone is doing well and good. Happy Monday.

Jersey-I didn't do it. I wasn't the first in this nice new room. Let us know if Hemo was still alive. Off to work.

I'm embarrassed that I should have first said, thank you Gregg and thank you Jersey for taking the reins for us.

Hi- Thanks Greg for our new home. We did fill up the last really fast. But, then again this is a great place to post. We can talk about anything. I fell that I know each and everyone personally.

Marty- I love the name Noah! He is one of my many favorite men of the bible! Hope you enjoy your time away from studying. We all need a break once in a while.

Jersey- How is your fish! Hope he is not suffering to much.

My mom is progressing faster than they expected her to. She is up and walking on her own this morning. All the tubes are out. Not even an IV! I am so proud of the way she is handling this!

Off to the hospital in a little bit. Took the morning off just to catch up with the house work, and cook a meal for my family for dinner tonight. I have never ate out so much as I did in the last 5 days. Today I ate my dinner at lunch and will eat my lunch for dinner. But through it all my bs and been pretty good. The hospital gift shop sell peanut chews, 2 days in a row I bought them and ate it before dinner and by bs before I ate my dinner was under 90! Two hours after eating it was 105! I don't think that is bad at all.

Have a Very Blessed Day Everyone!

Greg-Thank you so much for taking time to help u out with a new home. Sorry you are still having problems.

I got to study a couple of hours at work today, before any clients showed up, but then it got hectic. Will probably study tonight for a while.

I like the name Noah, to, Amazingrace. Every time I look at that little boy I think of the old song, "Noah Found Grace in the eyes of the Lord". I just pray that he will live up to that name.

Hope you all have had a great day. It was 75 today, and the Jonquils are in bloom. Supposed to be cold and snow showers tomorrow.

Hubby had a kidney stone attack last night. Fortunately he passed it this morning. Usually he has to have lithotripsy to pass them. He had a miserable night, and I didn't get much sleep, either.

Time to finish dinner. Will check in later.

Greg - Thanks from me to. We have never chatted but I have read all of your posts.

I was so glad Hemo made it. I have a purple beta and he has a big one gallon tank with a heater and real plastic seaweed.

Had a great day here also 55 degrees. WoW! Flood watch up now can you believe it. Good week end here. No more lows.....

|<   <<   >>   >|

by Vincent (PM , CC ) on Monday March 3, 2008 @ 9:31 PM

Vincent, I do think that I should have a filter & heater for my betta, but he is on the reception desk and it just would not work. It's funny how you can get feelings for a fish. Its nice here in Jersey too today.

Marty, You will appreciate this since you have a fear of mice as I do. I woke up in the middle of the night in a panic & half asleep and told my hubby that there were hundreds of mice in "the house that Greg built". I was so upset that he had to put the light on to control me. I was so darn upset and he kept trying to tell me that there was no REAL house. I was so angry at him for not understanding that they were really there. THis morning he just looked across the kitchen table at me and smiled and shook his head. As he walked out the door he mumbled, "there is never a dull moment around here, even when you are sleeping"

Greg- Sorry to hear that your business is not do so good! I pray that things will turn around soon. Thank God that you have your for support.

Jersey- My Lynnard T. Fish did the same thing. There were times I thought this is his last day, and then he would be better again. I had him for 2 1/2 years. When he finally did go to that big fish pond heaven, I left him in his bowl for a couple of hours just to make sure he was really gone this time.

Marty- Hope your husband is feeling better. They say kedney stones are worst than have a baby! I can say I never had a kidney stone, but I have had 4 babies and the labor was painful, so I can't compare the pain.

My mom is coming home today! Yesterday was not good for her. She had diarreha all morning. That got her up and moving! When I got there and talked to the nurse about some imodum for her they told me that they were giving her a stool softner and they had put a order in to stop that! She has irratiable bowel, and I am the stool softner just aggraviated it. Thank God the imodum came and it did help. Poor mom was afraid to eat to drink.

I will be glad that I am not running to the hospital. It is an hour each way.

Time to do some laundry before I pick up my mom!

Amazingrace-Hooray for your mom. I am so happy for you and her. When my mom had that surgery, she spent six weeks in ICU. Of course my mom always had problems with any kind of surgery. When she had her teeth pulled she spent to days in ICU.

Jersey-I definitely appreciate your plight. It gives me the creeps to even think of all of those mice. I'm glad you keep your hubby on his toes. I

Gotta' get ready for work. The clients probably wion't show up, a its raining hard today. The rain is ushering in some more cold weather. If the clients don't come, I will get to study at work, and relax tonight. Hope all of my friends in our new "mouse-free" home have a great day.

My mom came home from the hospital today! She was very tired from the trip home but she is glad to sleep in her own bed.

I am just glad that no more l hour drive to see her. I can walk to see her now! She lives 2 blocks away.

I think I speak for everyone when I say it does our heart good to hear your good news. What a difference a few days make and what a miracle that they can do such good work in a short time. Congratulations to Mom and give her all our best.
Now you can rest a little, Grace.

Grace-I'm glad that your mom is home. She will rest much better in her own bed, and you will rest better knowing she that she is close at hand. She did remarkably well.

I got to work for about four hours on my school work today, so I can again relax tonight. Won't be long until this course gets dropped in the mail. I got my grade ion my last course yesterday. I was a little disappointed. I made a 95. That's the lowest grade that I have made the whole time. Hubby says I should be very happy, but my average was 99, and it went down a little. Oh well, its still an A, although my school counts it as a A-.

Think I will watch American Idol. Have a great evening, all. Dennis, are you back from taking pictures. We need a report on it.

Amazing Grace so glad to hear that your mom is home! I hope that she continues to do well and soon will beating you around the block.
Today I got up and went to work, got everything ready for the kids breakfast then got sick to my stomach. Kind of bad when you are the only one there to serve breakfast. Anyway the principal came down with one of the teachers and took over and I was on my way home. I slept the whole day. Now I feel much better and should be ready to work bright and early tomorrow morning.
Jersey, Im so glad that there are no mice in here. I bet there would be a whole lot fewer of us in here, if there were. My husband loves to talk to me when Im half away (or half asleep) I ususally talk alot of nonsense, today I started to tell him about the puffs I had eaten.
Only thing is now Im awake I have no idea what I was talking about.
Im looking forward to hearing what great things Dennis learned on his weekend outing. I hope he will share!

Hello All,
Been off the blog , well actually the face of the world lately. Still on the spit, fell off the wagon big time. Amazingly enough I gained just a few pounds. Back on the wagon making sure it tracks straight and true. Took up walking again, even in the foul weather we have endured up here this Winter. Maybe when the weather breaks up here my mood will change.
You guys still inspire me even when I just read and not comment. Keep it up for all of our sakes. The uplifting message here in this blog just might be bouying the spirit of some one wavering in their diet and exercise program.
The good stuff now. I have to see a plastic surgeon to remove the bags of skin on my frame. It is this skin which caused me to plateau out in my weight loss program. Please keep this in mind if it happens to you. Most MD's don't know how to work with people like us who loose weight and maintain our blood sugar levels. There probably needs to be some sort of mental health support program that needs to be developed.
Anyway keep up the chattering and opining, I truly enjoy your "company"
jim

Amazingrace, Your Mom will be exhausted for several weeks. Some people, it takes months to get back to their own speed. So happy she is home and it is easier on you too.

April, HOw is your back? When my hurt I think about you. Still chuckle about that hilarious story you shared with us. I say the stupidest things when I am half asleep and don't remember a second of them.

Jim, It sounds like you have had a real tough time. I thought about you and worried that something had happened. When you get weak, just remember that we all are in the seam boat. None of us want to stick ourselves twice a day, but we do it because we want to live longer healthier lives. I still remember how you impressed me with the story with your belt. Welcome back and be strong, for me OK?

Marty, I wish I could give you a great big hug and congratulate you in person. Your hubby is right, you are too hard on yourself. I wish HAD THE INCENTIVE THAT YOU HAVE. I watch Idol too. Some of the boys are great.

April, I meant to comment on this on my earlier post. There is so many stomach virus going around. I fought with one the entire weekend. Don't feel bad about having others take over for you. It was the wisest thing. It is best for people with situations like yours to stay home. It keep this type of virus from spreading.

Jim-glad you dropped in and let us know how you are doing. Glad that you read our ramblings, even when you don't add any comments. We would love for you to put your two cents worth in here, too.

April-I'm sorry that you had such a rough day. They have had to close some of the schools around here because of those viruses. Of course the kids that aren't sick love the extra holidays.

Well, got to go and start my laundry. Have a great day.

Amazing - so happy to hear that your mother is home. I'm sure that she will continue the forward progress. Nice that you are so close that you can keep tabs on her and not have that long drive. Thanks for sharing your good news.

April - sorry to hear you were sick. Glad you had some support that could take over so you could get better. Your story about talking in your almost asleep state made me laugh too because I did the same thing last night talking to the hubby in bed before turning out the lights for the night. LOL. Nice to know I'm in good company when I do it.

Marty, like Jersey I am in awe of you and being so ambitious. You are to be commended and congratulated for taking that on and continuing to see it through. I really hope to follow in your footsteps some day. Keep up the good work and relax just a little bit you are doing far more than most would ever even think about let alone attempt.

Welcome back Jim. I wasn't on the board when you were last but everyone is always welcome. Congratulations for getting back in the wagon and steering your health in the right direction. Glad you've been keeping up on the posts. Best of luck with the plastic surgeon.

I have a dr. appointment tomorrow to check my AC1. It will be a while before the blood tests are in but I at least got off the pot and made the appointment. Ignorance is bliss right? I'm going to get back into the archives and print out the dawn effect and the other information that April and Dennis provided as to my elevated morning numbers and I just might teach the doctor??? But at least I'll be armed with the knowledge that I need. Hope everyone is having a great week.

Wow! I slept from 10:00pm last night until my alarm went off at 8:00am this morning. I really needed that restful sleep. I can't believe that this time last week we were waiting to hear how my mother was doing in surgery, and today she is in her own home on the mend! Thank you again for all your prayers they were surely felt!

Ginny- I am glad that there was someone there to take over for you at your job. When you feel sick it is better to be home, and not spread it to others.

Jim- If you fall off just get back on again. I was eating alot things the past week, that I haven't eaten in a while. I gained back 2 pounds, but know that I am home I can get back on track.

I have to get blood work and see the doctor sometime this month. I am going to give myself a week to get going and then go next week.

Will check back later.

Marty- 95% That is great, don't be so hard on your self. What you are doing is a GREAT accomplishment!

Hi Guys,

Sorry I haven't had much time to talk since we got back. My wife had an urgent deadline for some work she is doing with colleagues at Stanford University so has been hogging the computer. Also I am off work for a couple of weeks so can't log in there either.

The photography course was very good. We learned never to use the "auto" setting but instead how to use the camera on manual and make adjustments for all the conditions. We learned a lot of the tricks that professionals use in the framing and composition of a shot, and things like how to blur out the background in a close-up shot. One thing that became very obvious is how we tend to take a shot of something and become so focussed on the something that we don't think about the surroundings or the setting.

The course was run in Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire, which is a very historic estate with beautiful grounds, and the results we were getting with the experts there to help and guide us were astonishing. I just hope we can remember what to do for ourselves. If anyone is interested in Hardwick Hall here is a link with some nice views of it
http://www.cressbrook.co.uk/visits/hardwick.php

Derbyshire is a very underrated part of the country and reminded me very much of parts of New England, particularly the lower slopes of the Appalachians from New Hampshire up into Maine.

Good to see everyone is well. Jersey, I know you have a phobia about mice so that must have been quite a nightmare for you! You certainly wouldn't like our house just now - we have a family of mice that have moved into the attic this winter. But they don't bother us and we don't bother them. We are hoping to move to somewhere smaller in the summer so I just hope they will have rediscovered the great outdoors by the time we put this house on the market!

by Dennis (PM , CC ) on Wednesday March 5, 2008 @ 6:52 PM

Dennis, We missed you..I hate to tell you but as the mice invade the attic, they arrive there through the walls. YIKES THat is exactly the reason that we moved Happy to have you back. We need you around here and our buddy,Jim is back

Hi all, things going good in here. I agree with Jim, even though I don't post every day I read and it helps just to hear what is going on with everyone. I have had the flu, again!, my wife is in even worse shape. All kinds of people out here are having the flu for two months about! I have never heard of such a thing before, is that happening elsewhere?

I am right at one month with byetta and in the last 20 days I have lost 13 pounds. It is a miracle! The first ten days I lost no weight at all, and was starting to wonder if I would be able to. It is very motivating so as I realized I was losing weight my diet got better and better. I never eat sugar now anyway, even though I love it it makes me feel bad, and of course not good for the BS. But I went low carb without worrying about calories (fat) and it is working.

I also stopped having side effects at all, zero, after ten days.

I am very interested in hearing about the weekly shot, that is great news and if anyone hears more I am all ears. I am always afraid they won't test it enough and there will be problems with a new drug. Does anyone know what they are using to make it time release? It would be so much better to have the constant insulin stimulation rather than two big bursts a day.

Everyone---keep up the good work!!!

Dennis, thanks for the site re: Hardwick Hall, it looked very interesting. The Peak District, looks like there are a lot of hotels and tourist accomodations. The Maynard looks really nice. My wife and I dream of going there to visit, to the UK that is. When we get enough money, it sure would help if the exchange rate got better.

Who owns those old houses and castles? Are they all owned by the government now, or do some of the families from way back still live in them? Do you think that area would be a good one to visit?

by napaeagle (PM , CC ) on Thursday March 6, 2008 @ 3:23 AM

Napeagle, I don't know about the actual making of Byetta, but my Endo told me 23 weeks ago, that it will be better than the daily shots and more weight loss is expected from the new dose.

Dennis, unpack those bags and get working on finding about the answer to Napeagle's question. I realized after I posted that the mice and walls is such a stupid response. You know damn well that the mice don't land on your roof by helicopter and enter through lose roof shingles. They just freak me out and I just start typing.

by Jersey Girl (PM , CC ) on Thursday March 6, 2008 @ 6:35 AM

Jersey-I relate completely. My finger on the keys, and my brain don't line up properly when I think of mice. I always think that where there is one mouse, there are hundreds. Maybe hundreds is a little far-fetched, but there would be several. I get nauseated even thinking about them.

Dennis-Glad you had a good trip, and learned a lot. My husband would enjoy something like that. He loves photography.

Got to hit the books. I slacked off yesterday. I was tired, so I didn't study at all. I don't even feel bad about it. I decided that I wouldn't retain anything if I tried to study, because of the tiredness. Feel more rested today, so I have to make up for yesterday. Have a wonderful day.

Dennis, welcome back. Hubbie and I were in Derbyshire several years.
ago. We stayed at a priory the name of which excapes me now. I think they turned it into a hotel. Anyway it was beautiful. We also went to Robin Hood's Sherwood Forest thanks to a friend who lived in the area. The scariest part of our trip besides my husband driving on the the opposite side of the road was driving with our friend down the M-1
at 95 mph, with cars passing us. Really frightening.

Now that you're back I wanted to clear up one thing. Diabetic Dorothy was getting too mushy with you sending you hearts and all, after all I made you blush first! She wanted to rumble over you, so I said I was known as BIG GIN and was 6'5" and weighed 375 lbs. so she'd be afraid of me. [EMOTICON:ROFL1]] In truth I'm just a shorty at 5'4" too old for you and just a pussycat to boot, not the rumbling kind.
So look out Dennis you may have a second girlfriend on your hands in
Dorothy. I'm sure your wife won't mind at all.

Napaeagle the flu is driving us crazy here. Lots of faculty out with the flu, many coughing students in my office. I just keep the Lysol wipes handy, so far so good. My hubby has had it twice.

Marty I teach students not to study when overtired angry or sick. It's a waste of time and nothing sinks in. Take care of yourself first and your brain will take care of you when it's alert. And shame on you for being upset with an A- Give yourself a break. A professor once told me that maintaining a 4.0 is unhealthy. He was right, I took a B in grad school, my choice, instead of doing a paper for a nnot-guaranteed A. Hardest choice I ever made but such a relief from the stress. I survived. in the grand view of life, it was a good lesson for me. We are all going to applaud you at graduation anyway.

Struggling with eating habits right now also, gained 2 lbs. that feel like 20. Gave in to the cravings and stress. I may need to wait longer after taking my evening Byetta and make better choices. Didn't you say that waiting longer helped with feeling fuller?

Move over tiny Gin, I'm still here!!! Look out Dennis, we're here to make you blush!

Hey, I want an answer to Gin's question, too. Are you feeling more full and less hungry is you wait to take the shot until later in the evening? My mornings are rougher on me. I tend to get hungry & cravings around 1pm. I take my shot at 7 or 8.

Stomach thing & flu: I am now on my 3rd episode with this flu thing since Jan 4th. Never have I gotten anything like this twice - let alone 3 times in 2 months. It is killing me. And it isn't great on the marriage either. Mine has all been respiratory. Bronchitis & other such stuff! I was worried with my fever that it might have something to do with B.S. but doctor assured me it didn't.

Have fun! Welcome home Dennis, we missed ya!

Sure am glad that there are other shorties on here. I am 5 ft. 2 1/2. My dad was 6 ft. 6 1/2. Don't know why I didn't get a little of the height. My sister stands 5'11", and my brother is 6'3". Its okay, though, as hubby is only 5' 5 1/2".

Didn't get to hit the books this a.m., as I was asked to go out with my daughter, my granddaughter/daughter, and Great-grandson. Wasn't a hard to decision...study or spend time with Noah. He is the light of my life. If I am feeling down, just a few moments with him, and I am all smiles.

I am off to study for a while. Thanks for the advise, Ginny. I think I feel that I have to make perfect grades because my stepfather always told me how stupid I was. I guess in the back of my mind I am still trying to prove him wrong. He wouldn't let me go to college when I graduated high school. He said it was a waste of money. That's why it has taken me 46 years to get my degree. But how satisfying it is to know that I can do it. Enough venting, and off to stretch the old gray matter.

Dennis, welcome back. Glad your class and weekend went so good. I've heard that about digital cameras as well to not use the automatic setting. You mentioned them teaching you how to blur backgrounds and other neat things, was that with software after you have put the pictures onto your computer or is that something that if your camera has the ability you can do at the time you are taking the photo? I have always wanted to take a class as well but also know that some software can do amazing things with editing.

Marty, sorry to hear your father in law was so cruel. He was probably jealous and could tell that not only were you very smart you had a heart of gold. At least that's what I can see from your posts. Keep it up.

Sorry to hear about the flu's going around and Dorothy you've had it particularly rough. My husband and baby had something mostly respiratory and sinus for about a whole month. Hope you all get better soon.

Hi Napaeagle,

I would also like to know more about how the weekly dose works, but Eli Lily are being very coy about it. They are releasing information on how the trials are going but no technical details about how it works. The daily dose has quite a short life. It triggers the pancreas to start producing insulin (what is known as first phase release) and then the pancreas just continues on its own as it detects food in the stomach (second phase release). If the weekly dose also triggers first phase release, and does it for every meal for a week, it must be working continuously, so when does second phase ever happen? I'm a bit concerned about this because if the weekly byetta is constantly stimulating the pancreas then (a) there must be a big risk of hypos and (b) an even bigger risk of the pancreas burning out.

Fortunately our government doesn't own any of the historic buildings. If they did most of them would have been pulled down by now and replaced with concrete car parks. The royal palaces (Buckingham, Windsor Castle, Balmoral, Sandringham and Osborne House) are owned by the Queen. There are two charities that own most of the historic buildings, English Heritage and the National Trust. All the others are still owned by the original families so are only open to the public at very restricted times. The Peak District is certainly a beautiful area, although probably not quite as spectacular as the Lake District (around 100 miles further north), and certainly not as wild and unspoilt as the Scottish Highlands. If you are interested in visiting Britain then let me know the sort of things you are interested in seeing and maybe I can give you some suggestions.

Jersey, the mice we have seem to be tough little buggers so it wouldn't surprise me if they were trained by the SAS and parachuted in!

Ginny, There are several priories in Derbyshire but I think only one that you can stay at is Breadsall Priory, which is now a Marriott Hotel. Your driving experience on the M1 must have been a few years ago because the traffic tends to go slower since speed cameras were introduced a few years ago. If you are caught at 5mph or more over the 70 limit it is an automatic £60 fine ($120) and three points on your licence. Get 12 points and you lose your licence for a year. Anyone who goes past you at 95 mph now is just looking to get banned.

Hi Mel,

The course tutors taught us how to use the camera itself to get the results, rather than doctoring the shots later on the computer. Getting the background to blur is really quite simple. You set the camera to the smallest possible depth-of-field so that only the object you are photographing is in focus. If you stand close to the object then anything beyond the object will be a bit blurred. But if you stand much further away and use a telephoto lens on its maximum zoom, then the background can become so blurred that it just becomes a solid colour with no features.

Dennis- I read your post and looked at the sight with interest as some of my ancestors came from Derbyshire. In the papers I have seen it is listed as Woodenbox, Derbyshire. I doubt it is still around, I was interested to see the websight tho and get some idea of what the land looks like.
Also my married name is english and refers to the new house.

Dennis & Jersey, good news about the new byetta. More weight loss would be fantastic. I think it will have to be a continous stimulation of the pancreas which may actually be better too if they can somehow calibrate it correctly. My problem with byetta now is that my Dr said it lasts about six hours, and as you can see I tend to stay up late so sometime during the night it wears off and I get high BS in the am. Continuous would correct that. Of course, pancreas burn out is a risk, perhaps, as you say Dennis. Maybe we could take it til we lose a lot of weight, go back on other meds, then go back again later when we need to. Or something.

I saw a good PBS type show on diabetes, all these experts sitting around. One thing they said was that each diabetic is different and you have to work out what works for you yourself. I think that is true. In my case my BS tends to be more stable than a lot of people, but it works both ways--it doesn't go up that much, but it is real hard to get down too. I have never even approached hypoglycemia, I have a heck of a time just getting it below 100---but I never really go much above 150 or so either, unless I don't take my medicine and eat some sugar.

Jersey, good thing you aren't a farmer if you don't like mice. We have tons of them, little vols they are called. They are actually kind of cute but they eat the grape vine roots so they are bad news around here. We have three cats, two dogs that go after them, and we put up owl boxes and have lots of owls because they eat tons of vols every day. The cats pretty much keep them away from the house, sometimes they crawl up in your car engine and eat the insulation or through a hose or something.

Dennis, thanks for the answers on the Peak District and the castles. National charities own them, now that is an answer I would never have thought of. Very unique, at least compared to here. They are awesome. Where would I like to go, well I would like to go just about anywhere at this point, but I want to just see what the countryside is like. I would love to go to the small towns and hang out in the pubs and drink Guinness or whatever the local brew is and just see what people are like. I noticed that Grindleford there has a sheep dog trials festival of some sort, I would love to watch that. My wife is a true blue farmer, I am more of a city farmer, and she loves all the animals and plants, the flowers, all of it.

I had a good cry already this morning. Across the front page of the local newspaper read "East Brunswick GI killed". I did not know this 23 yr old, but my friend is a friend of his family. His name was Stephen and he was 24 years old. He went to the same grammar and high school as my daughters. He left behind a wife and baby daughter. He was to be discharged next month. It stated in the paper, that he loved his country so much that he told his Mom that he "would bleed on the American flag to keep the stripes red". This hit me so hard and I feel so bad for his family. Everyone, please take a minute and say a prayer for this hero's family I don't think I prayed as much as before finding this blog. This is a great place for our body and soul. I am a mess this morning.

Napeagle, Its funny that you talk about voles. Our yard has them and they are making lines on my hubbys precious grass. Will mouse poison get rid of them? We noticed 2 last summer come out from under the deck and nibble on the grass right in front of our eyes. We know it was a vole because it had a fat, short, black body with a shot tail. We set a rtap and caught one, but then caught a chipmunk and I cried and made Hubby take the trap away.NOw he has poison all around. They freak me out and don't know what to do about getting rid of the.I want them gone before we start using the pool and sitting out side. I read that they do not invade house or climb steps. Do you know if that is right? I went to Petco and they were fresh out of Owls. Thank you God, for sending me a Vole Expert

Jersey I'll say some extra prayers for your friend's friends. We counted our blessing all the time that our son grew up in between the skirmishes (they don't let us call them official wars!)My heart breaks for the young families losing dads and leaving children behind.
Being a mother of a son, I cannot imagine having them taken away to war and not returning when we love them so much. For all your fun, Jersey, you're a sweet caring person...just ask Hemoglobin.
Dennis, it was Breadsall Priory that we stayed at, the grounds are just so beautiful. We also stayed in Keswick one night up in the lake country, so beautiful there too. We have many fond memories of England from the train ride up from London to Derby to the driving in the beautiful countryside and watching Hadrian's wall, etc. But our trip was at least 25 years ago when my 37 yr. old son was a preteen.
I guess the M1 was a raceway then and my son throught it was too cool to be speeding so fast. Glad they enforced some regulation.
Hi Dorothy, I knew you weren't far away. all of us shorties have to stick together.
I waited to eat later after my dinner shot last night and it seemed to help, same with this morning.
Back to work for me.

Dennis, I agree with the issue of overworking the Pancreas and and I am also concerned. My Endo who basically a conservative genius, assured me that it will be much better and more effective than the daily shots. I hope he is right. My Ancestors are also British. My Father's Mother was a Forsythe. Some day we are going to visit England. It is such a beautiful Country.

Dennis, thank you for the information. It would be very worth it to take a class then. I do pretty good editing with the free software but would love how to take better pictures with the manual settings. Have you ever heard of Groombridge Place that is I believe in Kent? According to the genealogy my mother has done it supposedly was in the family at one time.

Sorry to hear about your voles Jersey. Hope you find a good way to shoo them off for good. I've never liked mice and rodents either. Luckily we have only had problems in the garage in the winter months.

Hello all. Its a cold, wet, dreary day in Cleveland, Tennessee. It is supposed to snow tonight. Its March already; where is the warm weather? I'm ready for it.

Amazingrace-How is everything with your mom? Hope she is continuing to progress.

Jersey-My heart broke for the family of that young man. Last year a young man that went to elementary school with Ashley and Jimbo was killed a week before he was due to come home. It broke the hearts of the whole community. His brother turned around and joined the Marines, and now he is over there. The young man that was killed left an 18 month old baby. The brother has to kids. I know that his family stay on pins and needles.

Dennis-I looked at the web-site, and it is beautiful over there. Would love to visit your country someday, but guess we'll never be able to do it. I visit vicariously every year through my son.

I need to hit the books. I am trying to finish this course this weekend. Then I will have two more to do. I will check in later. Take csare.

Marty and Jersey, that is so sad. I have a hard time thinking about these poor people over there because with a 10 month old child it makes me think of how sad it would be to be left with out me or her dad. It is heart breaking. I meant to post this with the earlier one but I will say extra prayers for your friends and for all our great military that are over serving now and that have served. I am very grateful for the freedom I enjoy as a direct result of their service. My heart goes out to their families.

Hi Guys,

I've been trying to log on all day but each time I get timed out. No problems with any other site though. Anyone else been having problems today or is it just me?

Napaeagle, I couldn't agree more that every diabetic is different, we all have different medicine needs, different tolerances to certain foods. In fact the only thing we all have in common here is the need for byetta.
We certainly have some quaint countryside over here, but you have historic buildings as well - the first time I went to the Grand Canyon I stayed in El Tovar hotel - over 100 years old and every president has stayed there. On Cape Cod in October we stayed in a beautiful inn that was originally a farmhouse in the 1800s, and saw many houses on the Cape that date back to the early 1700s.

Jersey, last year we had a rat that liked to take a short cut beneath our deck from wherever his nest was to wherever he was headed for. The people next door put down poison, which of course he ate, then promptly died under our deck on his way back home. You wouldn't believe how much smell you can get from just one rotting rat. We had to take up most of the deck panels before we found him!

April, I hadn't heard of Wooden Box so looked it up. It is now called Woodville and is a district of a small town called Swadlingcote. It was originally the centre of a great pottery industry. In fact the original pottery is still going strong.

Mel, I not only have heard of Groombridge Place, I've been there - it's about 25 miles from where I live. The house is privately owned but the gardens are open to the public and are where Pride and Prejudice was filmed.

Well, I saw my endo today and he says I am doing really well. A1C is down, weight is down, and my daily BG readings are looking good. He wants to halve my Amaryl dose to 0.5mg. My evening readings are pretty much in the normal (non-diabetic) range, but the morning ones are still too high. He has suggested that I should go for a walk for 20 minutes, around 2 hours after the evening meal. My problem is that my pancreas goes to sleep before I do, which allows the liver to produce un-needed glucose. He says the walk can stimulate the pancreas into producing a little more insulin so countering the glucose. I will give it a try and hopefully see some lower morning readings. Better not try it just yet though because from Monday we will be on a River Nile cruise for 8 days, and a 20 minute walk in the evening would probably see me ending in the river as crocodile food!

Dennis, that's great that you've been there. One day I'll visit there too. I'm still working on all the places here in my back yard. Too bad we have to work to afford vacations. Enjoy your upcoming trip and yes wait until your back to experiment with the evening walk. Congratulations on being able to down your doses of something.

I will be giving the #10 pen another try starting this weekend. Hopefully no adverse side effects like before. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Mel-Good luck on the 10. I did pretty good on my second try. I was nauseated for a while, but nothing like when mt doctor started me on the 10 before the 5.

I have worked diligently today, an am pushing toward finishing this course. Only two projects left. One of them will be pretty hard, but the other will be a breeze. Hope to finish it tomorrow, do the corrections Sunday, and mail it Monday. Then I will jump into the next course. I get so excited when I think how close I am to being finished. I will probably feel guilty for not working after I finish the last course, but I can spend more time on getting my house back in order. It only gets a "lick and a promise" now. I will also have more time for pleasure reading. I love to read, but haven't had much time for anything but textbook reading.

Well, time to clean the kitchen. Have a good evening.

Marty- My mom is doing fine. The visiting nurse came today and said she was progressing ahead of schedule. They told her to take it easy, and try not to rush the healing procress.

Jersey- I read the story about the soldier from East Brunswick. I just hate to hear it. My daughters boyfriend was in Iraq for six months. Thank God he returned home safe in October! I will keep the family in my prayers. Our church prayes for our service men at every service.

Dennis- I don't know about the once a week shot. Is it going to be stronger? What about the damage to the pancreas. You seem to think that it is going to be ok, I will probaly wait to see how it goes. When Byetta first came out I kept telling my doctor no I'll wait.

I am so tired. I think the last week is finally catching up with me. My allergies are really bad the last couple of days, and allergy meds. make me tired. This new pen that I started on 3/2 has no appitite supression at all. I have been so hungry all day. My numbers have been good, so I know that it is working. I just ate dinner less than 2 hours ago and I am hungry again!

Jerseygirl, Dennis has correctly identified one of the problems with poison, they can eat it and then crawl under the house and die and the smell is horrific. The other problem is that some of the poisons, the way they work is to dehydrate them to death. So they get really thirsty before they die. Let me tell you a story about that, I lived in Orlando for seven years in a neighborhood with small yards and everyone had a pool in the back yard. Well my neighbor got some rats in his attic and called the exterminator. One day I am sitting out by my pool, and his wife was floating around their pool next door on an inflatable mattress. All of a sudden the rats came dive bombing out of his roof into his pool, about seven of them in a row. The wife starts screaming and scrambling to get out of the pool, practically drowning. By then I am the obnoxious neighbor leaning over the fence watching laughing my ass off. He had to get his pool cleaner thingie to scoop them out then try to beat them to death with a hammer. It was a wild scene.

So, I would not advise the kind of poison that dehydrates them if you have a pool, which I see that you do.

The best thing is to get a cat if you live in a neighborhood type situation, if you like cats. The problem is that no matter what way you kill them, there are so many that it is just spitting in the ocean, there are always more, it is messy, etc. Predator animals are the best because they do kill a lot of them, but even better they scare the rest of them away.

I have been on Byetta almost a year. I lost 75 pounds, was never hungry. I started having bowel problems and the doctor took me off the LS, but just as soon as he did my ankles started swelling and I'm sure my chest was starting to hold water again as I was having heart problems when I laid down. Going to start taking LS again, I need to lose more weight, have a 90 day supply on hand and will use it. My sugar is staying in acceptable range, but befoe I would take the Byetta and forget to eat for on or two day and sugar never dropped below 75.

Napeagel, Thanks for the advice, but a predator cat would not work. Had one once and his name is Cosmo and he is sitting on the bed next to me as I type. Funny little story...I have a gray tabby who is 10 years old about 5 years ago I felt bad that she was lonely. It was a Wednesday, which was my day off. I got up and called the local animal shelter and asked if they had any kittens for adoption. I was told that they had a orange tabby and a black and white. I told them that I would be in on Friday to pick the b&w one up. 1 hour later I was out watering my plants on my deck and a small gray tabby ran out from under the deck.I looked up at the sky and said, I didn't want another gray tabby. A moment later, he jumped in my lap purring the loudest purr I have ever heard. He was hungry, skinny and uncared for and I could tell he was a stray. I took him to my vet and he checked him and told me that we had to have the results of the blood he drew before I could bring him in the house. I paid $225 and left with the kitten. I was thinking that I probably just flushed $225 down the toilet because he probably wouldn't be there when I got the results 24 hrs later.I woke up the next morning and with 1 eye opened, I walked out on my deck to find him curled up on the chair The vet called and all the results were negative, but he had fleas. I had to go back to the vets and put medicaion down his back and keep him our or another 24 hours. Well here it is 19 pounds later (Cosmo, not me) and my Sweet Big Boy is the love of my life. I don't think an outside cat would work with Jersey. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Nasty, rainy day here. A good day to relax and take a long bubble bath.

Jersey sounds like the horrid day we had yesterday here. Today we have high, high winds and the temp is dropping fast. So I guess that's your weather coming for tomorrow, sorry.
Miss my cats, have had 5 over the course of our 45 years. Husband says we will never have another, we'll see.
Mel good luck on the 10 pen. You'll probably do well this time. Glad the 5 worked well for you.
Grace, I can identify with the hunger. When I've had a pen like that, it's the longest month of my life. Good luck, I gained 2 lbs. with that mess. Tell mother to be careful not to push so hard I'm sure she's anxious to get back her strength but has to be careful.
Marty, I remember trying tolearn to read again after all the textbooks. I felt so guilty reading for pleasure. Wasn't sure I knew how to read without a yellow marker and pen in my hand.
Horrible stories of rats, voles, mice. Gives me the creeps. We had bats in our attic and that was an ongoing nightmare since they are protected, sort of, by EPA. Was alone in the pool one night about 9:30 in the summer, light just dimming, and one bat dipped into the pool for a drink. I was floating, but shot straight up out of the pool like a rocket, and never touched the bottom. Never swam again after 8 PM. Going to dinner tonight, hope I remember to take the pen.

My doctor's office called yesterday, and I have my potassium back up. I have eat a lot of citrus fruit, and dried fruit. Glad it came up on its own. I hate having to take medications for everything.

Well, I'd better get off, and run the errands. Then its study time. Will try and check in later.

WEIGHT LOSS...Hmm, I had just given up that I would lose another ounce. I had lost nothing since mid December, I did not gain either and then last week I dropped 3 pounds. It's funny but the 3 pound weight loss makes you feel strong. I think it actually did something to my head. I felt like it was 10.My tummy felt flat and I felt great. It also made me know it is not the end of the weight loss. In 2 weeks I will me on it a full 2 years and to still be losing is a wonderful thing.
Just a reminder to all you Newbies and not so Newbies for that matter, PLEASE this is the time to lose the weight. It is being given to you on a silver platter. It slows down after time and I know how it is and you feel you owe it to yourself to cheat once in a while, but you are really cheating yourself. I wish I had taken TOTAL advantage of the early months of appetite supression, but I was under the that it would go on forever, or at least as long as I took Byetta.

I worked for three hours today, only to discover that I had left out a project, and the one I had done was done wrong. That causes real frustration to me. Then hubby bought a new keyboard, and I'm having trouble getting used to it. Oh well, I'll quit griping/

The snow has melted, even though the temperature didn't get above 36. It was pretty for a while. Of course that is the kind of snow that I like...here long enough to admire, and then one.

time to clean the kitchen, and get back to the books. Have great evening.

Jersey, I take it it is too cold in New Jersey for an outside cat? I guess you will have to use the exterminator then, whatever poison they have. The problem is that they die in the walls and under the house, depending on what you have. I would try making sure the house is really well sealed, no little holes in the foundation or walls they can get in at all, then use mouse traps. At least you can find them when they die.

Gil, btw, what is LS?

Hi Gil,

When your doctor took you off byetta did he by any chance put you on one of the glitazone drugs? Actos or Avandia maybe? The symptoms you describe are typical of the glitazone family.

Well guys, this will be my last post for a week or so as we leave for the airport around 5am tomorrow (midnight Jersey time). The rest of today will be spent getting packed and trying to remember where we put the tickets, passports, money . . . .

Be good while I am away!

You've been great welcoming all of us. Gregg didn't have any idea how far this would go, did he?
Thanks for the lecture to get back on dieting, Jersey. You really hit home with me. With the spring about to pop here inspite of the cold, it's time to pay attention to what I'm eating more. I've gotten careless with Nov/Dec/Jan and Feb sweets. Hoping that Easter will not suck me in.

Napaeagle, thanks for asking Gil what LS is. I didn't understand it either.

Ginny I will have been on Byetta two years the end of June. Its strange that I ever found this place as I dont ususally go looking up the drugs I take online. I'm glad I did tho as the nausea in the beginning made me wonder if I wanted to keep on trying it. Greg and Jersey and some of the early spitters gave me so much hope. The first month I lost 8 lbs. Then the same thing happened the second month, this drug had a strange effect on me. It caused me to stop and think about my food choices. Even with the weight loss a little more spread out now, I can still have hope that maybe I will lose a little more. Nearly two years sticking to trying to lose weight is pretty monumental for me. I am so thankful for the advances in science that have allowed the discovery of this medicine. I wish more people could have the opportunity to be on it.
I stayed in this weekend and tried to get over this darn cold. Hope everyone else is doing well and hope you have a great week.

Ginny- I have been on this blog since Oct. 07, but it feels like your guys have been freinds forever!

LS stands for Lizard Spit, it is what byetta is made to be like. I don't think it is made from Lizard Spit, but it works and I don't think about it. Some of us call it spit.

Tonight I took my shot and waited a full before I ate, I ate less and was neasous. I have not waiting the hour because I have been going to low if I waited to eat. So instead I have been injecting and eating with in 15 to 20 minutes. I have been trying to eat more in between lunch and dinner.

The winds in New Jersey were wild last night. They came out of no where. At one point I was upstairs and I could feel the floor rumbling under me. My cat took off to hide. It felt like it went on for hours, but it only lasted a couple of minutes. Our power blinked, but never went out. I heard that the power was out all over. The winds were wild for a couple of hours. Today it is very cold, but not much wind.

This is going to be a busy week for my mom she has 2 doctor appt. One at her primary and 1 at Deborah Hosp. She is continuing to improve every day. Is is not taking much for pain control. I truly admire her will to keep going.

Nite to all, going to watch a weeks worth of my favorite soap. (All my Children)

Thanks for the well wishes on the 10 pen Marty and Ginny. I was chicken s___ most of the weekend but tried the 10 pen this morning. It seemed to sit well after I ate breakfast and even with my coffee. Usually coffee makes me feel oogy. Got to work and I started not feeling so great. If that happens on the 5 pen usually a little handful of peanuts or almonds seems to help so I had a few peanuts. Bad idea. Didn't make it very far before I lost it. So happy I get here so early as to have time to clean it all up. Hope the guy who's office is around the corner from me doesn't wonder why the carpet is darker at his doorway. My boss was even in early this am with a deadline later today. Somehow I was able to get it cleaned up with out anyone noticing that I know of. My boss is a hypochondriac and I don't know that even if I explained it was a medication that was the culprit that he would believe it. He would probably call into his dr for an antibiotic. I know that they aren't supposed to do it but I bet its not worth the fight with him. Anyway, I will go back to the 5 for tonight and tomorrow am and then try the 10 again tomorrow evening. With the 5 if I get nauseated a little snack seems to help calm the tummy down. Maybe not eating anything would be better, any suggestions? Thanks all.

Happy to hear your mother is doing so good Amazing. Thanks for all the fun stories.

Hope you had a great weekend. Sorry to hear about all the nasty wind, rain and snow out east and southeast. Weather was pleasant here. Sun shinning but the wind was pretty chilly when it blew. Took the baby to a park this weekend to see if she would appreciate swinging. She did pretty good we will have to try it again soon. Today is supposed to be 50 yippee. I might get to start wearing shorts again at lunch when I walk. I'm hoping this is spring and its here to stay.

Mel, I'm not that old a spitter, but I do remember Dennis saying to remember that peanuts are legumes and not nuts really. Anyway, when I try to eat peanut butter I get sick, so I'd stay away from those little guys. I'm sure the others will have some suggestions for you.
My friend tried Byetta and couldn't even handle the 5 pen. Her dr. told her to give up. He thinks she was allergic.
Amazing, Sounds like our terrible winds did make the way up East, it was something horrid here too for a day and a half. Our daffies are up and some cherry trees and pear trees are in bloom. But I'm sure the cold is not to far away again. Thanks for all your good help as an old spitter, I should say 'long time' spitter. I waited longer after taking my evening shot, tried to wait the full hour, and it did seem to help. I didn't eat as much and did feel a little nauseous. Butthat's not something I normally struggle with so I didn't mind it for a few hours. It sure beats starving 24/7 like I was for a few weeks. Going to try taking the shot before my half hour drive home and then waiting another half hour there. I'll see if it makes any difference. We all sure have individual bodies in reaction to it.
Back to work for me.

Hi all,

Haven't got to read everyones' comments since this new blogsite but happy to see everyone again, and know that spring is slowly on its' way!

Went to a wedding of a friend of our down in San Antonio last Friday. Good news, we got down there in time, despite Dallas airport being closed due to a snowstorm. Bad news, it was cold in San Antonio, not the 80 it was supposed to be and my sleeveless dress was CHILLLLY! Good news, the dinner at the wedding was great, bad news, I had come down with the stomach flu, starting on the morning plane ten minutes after take off. Good news, I felt good enough to dance at the wedding and enjoy the next two days off with my hubby. Best news...getting on the scale this morning and weighing the least I have in more than 22 years! Yeeeehaaaaaaa!

Had to share with people I knew would appreciate it. I wish you all the best week and warmer weather for everyone. Hugs!

Mel- When I started on the 10 I was still using the 5 I just injected then reset the pen while it was still in and did another 5. If I felt sick in the am with 10 I just did 5 at pm. My pcp also said I could do 10 in am and 5 at pm until I got adjusted to it then go to the 10.

Debra- So
