Hey, Jersey-I found our new room. Look how big and roomy it is. Thanks, Greg, for the new home. It was taking quite a while to reach the old home.

Jersey-sorry I beat you to our new home...yeah, right. On a serious note, let us all know when you are having your biopsy. I am still praying, but would like to get my friend to pray for you on that day.

This insidious disease appears to be quite hereditary. My maternal grandfather died of diabetes back in 1929. Four of his five children had it. I don't know how many of the cousins have it, but my brother and I are both diabetics. My brother doesn't take care of himself, so he has a lot of diabetic complications.

I have to take the little great-grandson for his 18 month check-up today. He has to have four shots..poor baby. Its time to skeedaddle (southern term for go). Catch you later.

Hi All! Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year! Have not read all the back entries, will catch up when I can get a chance. My computer is fried and this is the first time that the library computer is letting me post. Thank God that the new computer will be here soon.

Doing good with the 10 pen. Still some naseasus with the the evening shot, but my numbers are good so I just go along with it.

The old page takes so long to load at the library that their computer times me out. I feel like I have be gone for so long. Only have 30 minutes on this computer so I will check back as soon as I get my computer.

Wow!! it is nice in here! Jersey what do you think? Will it be big enough to fit our needs for a couple more months?
Hope everyone is having a good day. I just got thru day two at the school. They sure have short counters for those elementary kids to work at. All that bending is killing my back. I'm trying to stay positive tho, all the work is going to help me get fit. And hopefully lose another couple of pounds.
My grandson was a little sweetheart when we got home, he asked if he could help me out of the car. Then he told me to sit back and rest when we got inside. Just catering to my every need.

Really didn't mean to beat you to the new room, Jersey, but I liked the room so much I had to let you know that I had visited it. I'd never try to outdo our leader. You rally have your hands full trying to keep all of lizards straight.

Greg-it sounds as if you are still swamped trying to keep your head above water. we sure appreciate you taking time to start us a new thread. Just remember that all of your fellow lizards are thinking about you.

eight more days until the little one joins our home, but whose counting? I am; that's who. We have named her Lady Cupcake, but that is subject to change when we get to know her better.

May study some tonight. I took Christmas and New Years off, so its time to hit the books again. Still haven't received my last grade. Sure hope it wasn't so bad that they are ashamed to post it. So far I have a 98 average, but the courses are getting harder. My old brain wonders why I am subjecting it to all of this new info. Catch you all later.

Hello--I started my Byetta 10pen 3 days ago--so far so good. I had an incident with irritable bowel syndrome and my new cholesterol drug Vytorin--felt terrible all New Year's Day. Until I know what's happening, I stopped the Vytorin and am back to taking Zetia. Since Vytorin is Zetia plus some kind of statin--I figure it must be the statin. Have my first endo apt. Jan. 11.

On a tragic note for me
I had to have my dear angel of a kitty--Tommy--put down this morning. I spent a lot of time with Tommy during this school break and Tommy was just being "Tommy". No warning really until last night when I picked him up to hug him, and he was so weak. My vet hospital and I have been together for over 30 years--they are wonderful to me and loved Tommy too. Doc said immediately upon feeling Tommy's belly that he had a massive tumor and would likely die on the operating table. She said some cancers are like that--just like in people. I wouldn't put him through an operation when his chances were so very small if any at all. I wanted to say goodbye while he was alive. I stayed with him and talked with him during the injection and was permitted to stay as long as I needed to after he died. I held him in my arms for 45 minutes. The Spanish say that when a cat finds you it is a blessing. Tommy did find me outside in the tiger lilies one summer morning, and he certainly blessed my life with laughter and love. wolf

Lone, Oh I know how you feel. I had my poor Jenny for just 5 short years and she died of renal failure. It was a very painful death for my poor girl. I then decided that I would call the shelter and ask is they had another kitty. I was told they had 2. I told them that I would be there the next day to take the ORANGE one. I was watering my plants on my deck 10 minutes later and then a tiny gray tabby poked its head out from under my deck. He, Cosmo is his name, picked me to be his Mommy 7 years ago. They do pick us to be their parents. I hope you recover soon and you are in my heart.

Amazingace, So happy to see you back. Happy New Year.

Dennis, Where are you? I tried to watch aish movie

Marty, I must admit it is going to take a l o n g time before I forget that you entered the new home before me. boo=hoo More Later Marty------------

April, What a sweet story..What a great grandson you have He is a great child and you should be just as proud of him as he is of you. That story made me very happy. You will be fine and getting out of the house will be just what the doctor ordered. I can imagine bending over a short counter like that could kill your back.

Jersey--thank you for the kind thoughts--all pet lovers understand. It's your responsibility to be with them at the start--through the joy of their life, and at the end. Tommy had such a great personality--at the vets they loved him so much they said he was sexy--but a "cute" sexy.

At this pretty lonely time of the evening considering what the day was like, it was a gentle treat to read your words. Thanks again--- wolf

Lone wolf-so sorry for your loss. Having so recently experienced the same with my little Fideaux, my heart goes out to you. You will miss tommy terribly, but you showed love and compassion for him. Remember your sweet memories of him.

I'll try not to one-up you again Jersey. Don't want you angry at me...O may need to borrow your hat for a formal affair some day. Next time I'll let you be the first in our new room...maybe.

Hope all of you have a good rest tonight, and awake refreshed. I will be thinking of you, Lone Wolf. Catch you later.

Lone, I looked up in the sky and asked my Jenny to look after your Tommy. She was such an adorable kitty and will take good care of him. He better not try to eat her chicken Nine Lives though. His death was kinder than my Jenny's. I knew for 4 months that she was dying. I watched her just disappear in front of my eyes. She became so weaker and lost so much weight.I was selfish and did not want to be without her. I finally made the decision to take her to have her put down the next day and I went looking for her in the morning and she was curled up and too weak to move. It still kills me to think I should have done it sooner and I caused her to suffer more. I so loved my pretty Jenny and will always miss her.

Marty, Its ok that you snook in the new house before me, but I will NOT let you use my pink hat. It is mine and only mine (wow, I sounded like the only child that I am) I thought you had your new furry friend already. I bet you cant wait to get you hands on him and cuddle with him. Puppies don't really like to cuddle so you might have to wait for that.

Hi Everyone,

Yes, I'm still around. Just been very busy but have been following all your news.

On the personal front this year brings a big change for me. For the last 15 years I have been self-employed, running my own consultancy business. A client I have done a lot of work for over the last year has offered me a permanent role in their organisation, on a part time 3 days a week basis. That fits in perfectly with my plans to wind down gradually before full retirement so I have accepted their offer. I will remain a director of my own business but my wife will now be its only consultant and employee.

On the health side, I had a very disappointing Xmas and New Year. I have been really careful about everything I ate and haven't had a single mince pie, piece of cake, Xmas pudding - even the 2 boxes of chocs I was given are still unopened. I have also started a new low carb diet, not quite the full Dr Bernsteins but I am working towards that goal. Despite all that my BS levels have been the highest ever. My worst day I hit 277. My next endo appointment is on 18th and I dread to think what he will say. Worst case is I will be off Byetta and on to insulin instead. I just hope it doesn't come to that because it has big implications over here. You have to resit a driving test every other year, are very limited in what you are allowed to drive, its almost impossible to hire a car, life insurance and healthcare premiums just about double, etc, etc. Please keep your fingers crossed for me on 18th.

Lone and Marty, I was sorry to hear of your furry friend losses. We lost our beloved cat nearly 5 years ago and I still miss her.

Jersey, you lost me - "aish movie"?

Marty, I'm really pleased your son enjoyed his trip over. You have no idea the trouble we went to to make sure he and the girls had great weather - in and around London no wet stuff and temps in the 50s. Since he got back we have had several snow flurries and temperatures struggling to stay above freezing.

Gregg, thanks for looking after us all again. I hope things start to improve for you this year.

Have just seen the results of the Iowa primaries - was Hilary's 3rd place as big a shock to you guys as it was over here? We thought she had already chosen the new carpets for the West Wing!!

Dennis-my son said this was the best trip he has ever made over there...weather wise. Can you tell me if there are any books about Lady Jane Grey? My middle daughter has a fascination for this young lady.

Jersey-Lady Cupcake will join our household in one week. She is five weeks old today. I can hardly wait. When I visited her she thoroughly enjoyed snuggling up next to my neck. i hope she will be a good little snuggler.

Marty- I can not read the old blog, the library computer will not let load. So happy to hear about your new furry little friend. I know what it is like to wait to get them. When we got my kitten 14 years ago we had to wait 6 weeks to get her. She was born at the animal shelter 2 weeks before, I just fell in love with her. We got her at 8 weeks and she stills thinks that I am her mommy, she cannot get close enough to me.

Jersey - Thanks I am glad to be back. My new computer will be here any day. Happy Birthday alittle late. My b-day was 12/31 it was the big 54.

Amazongrace-I had to have my little poodle put to sleep after having him over 12 years. It was shortly before Christmas. I still miss him so badly, but I found an adorable little Yorkie. She will come home next Friday, when the vet says she can leave her can leave her mommy and daddy. That will catch you up on my plight. I know you will be glad when you get your new computer. We are anxious to be able to hear from you more often.

Wow Greg, such a nice new space. Thank you for that and thank again for starting this back when you did. I was sad to read that you are having such a rough go of things right now. You and your family will be in my prayers that things will get better and FAST!

I get too busy to read or post for one day and look at you people.. 15 posts already and probably even more once I get my chubby fingers to type out my message.

Sorry that your back is hurting from your job April. I'm sure you'll get more accustom to it. And what a darling grandson to be so kind to you. So very sweet.

Hope you get your new computer sooner than later Amazing. Our home computer died a few weeks ago as well. I'm fortunate that my employer permits some personal time on the WWW so I can keep up with all you awesome people here.

Lone Wolf, so sorry to hear about your sweet Tommy. I'm glad it was swift and sudden. My heart goes out to you at this time. Like I told Marty recently when her baby had to go away, I'm sure it doesn't help minimize the pain but I'm sharing tears of sadness with you for your loss. I have 2 girl sister cats and it tears me up just to even think of losing either of them. They have been such a joy to our house. Hope you can remember the good times.

Dennis, best of luck to you. My father is type 2 as well as me and he was worried to go in for his AC1 due to his readings being high.. he was pleasantly surprised when the results came back with a lowered AC1. I will pray for the same for you. It sounds like a lot more headache to deal with for you over there if it does go up and you have to move to insulin. Glad your weather has been good. Good luck in a few days from now. I'm in Utah and we have had highs of 18 for a few days. Hope it mellows before it gets to you or the other parts east of me.

Have been on the #10 for the last month and have been doing pretty good. Some major nausea but not too bad, the worst of it passes in about an hour or two. Last night was really bad and even ended up not being able to keep my dinner down. I didn't take it this am and I'm going to put a call into my dr and see if we can go back to the #5 for a while. Has anyone else done this as well, gone back to the #5 for a time?

Glad to see that you are so enthused and counting down the days until you get your new babe Marty. Its just how it should be. As for school, hang in there, your doing better than I ever did on my best day in my teens.

Dennis, I'm happy for your new work situation. It sounds perfect and a very smart move. I'm sorry I confused you. I started to say that I tried to watch a British movie and couldn't understand a word that they said. I had the volume up high and I was sitting a foot from the TV,ah maybe that was the problem!?? I was so frustrated at myself. Don't fret about your 277 glucose. I am sure that your Endo will not pull you from Byetta for a few high readings. Insulin dependent Diabetics have the same issues here in the states and it is very unfortunate. I am surprised to hear that you guys across the pond, are thinking Hillary is going to win. We here in the US are not thinking that or should I say that we are hoping that doesn't happen.

by Jersey Girl (PM , CC ) on Friday January 4, 2008 @ 1:07 PM

Mel-when I first went on the 10 I got so sick that my doctor put me back on 5 for two months. After that it wasn't quite so bad. Maybe your body just needs more time to adjust to the spit.

April-I hope today was easier for you. Hopefully each day will get easier.

Dennis-I am glad for your new work situation. I agree with Jersey about your a1c. It may have come down, even though you are having some high readings. I am on insulin and Byetta. I used to take 110 units of insulin a day. I now take 22 units a day. This came about because of the Byetta. They are still researching the use of insulin and Byetta. I got fearful when I heard the commercials saying not to take insulin with Byetta. I called the company, and they said that the research is almost over, and it is looking very favorable. My doctor is a very caring and compassionate Christian man, and he had no qualms about trying it. I have done great.

Jersey-it just dawned on me that probably the reason for the really good weight loss was due to the decrease in insulin use. The more insulin you take the more weight you gain. Here I thought it was due to my hard work. Oh well, no matter what the cause I am just glad all of that weight is gone.

Time to go fix our dinner. Take care of yourselves.

Good news my new computer came this afternoon. It feels so good to have it back. I felt like I lost my right arm. It is going to take a while to catch up, I have not been able to get on for about 3-4 weeks.

It was so cold here the last 2 days. Last night I had on 2 sweatshirts and was under a blanket. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR It was a little warmer today and by Monday it will be close to 60. Yea!

Marty- So sorry to hear about your little poodle. I know that you will have so much fun with your little puppy. My cat is 14 and I cherrish every day that I have her.

Dennis- Good Luck with your new job.

April - That was so sweet of your grandson. New Years day we were at my daughters and sil's, they are potty training my granddaughter, everytime she goes on the potty they give her a M & M. When I went to the bathroom she had to come with me, after I went she shouted Great Job Grammy you did it, now you can get an M & M! She would not let me sit without taking one. Thank God that I only used the bathroom twice while I was there or my bs would have been sky high!

Lone- Sorry to hear about your cat. My cat died about 5 years ago from cancer, it was very quick. He went from 22# to about 5 in 10 days. He died at home in my daughters arms, I think he was waiting for her to come home from school. My other cat still looks for him at times.

Welcome back Amazingrace. so glad your computer is back. It will be good to hear from you daily. Our weather sounds like yours. It got down to 12 last night, but is supposed to be around 60 Monday. Sure don't handle the cold very good, and Jersey won't even let me borrow her hat. Isn't that one-sided of her? Of course, I'm just joking, Jersey. We know that you designed the hat yourself, and only you should have the pleasure of wearing it, and getting all of the complements.

Marty, You are absolutely correct . Insulin does cause weight gain and stopping it does cause weight loss...Well so there you go Miss Smarty Pants...You are still the biggest looser.
Hey you did a great job and whatever it took you deserve credit and you are not a loser I cannot wait for cupcake to arrive. I feel like I am getting a new puppy I LOVE PUPPY BREATH

Hi everyone, Thank you for thinking of me. Today was better than yesterday at work. My back started hurting but I kept on plugging away cause I knew that standing around would just prolong the pain and the sooner I got done the sooner I could get home and get a massage. Last night I couldnt sit still for very long as every way I sat hurt. Today I sat on a heated chair like massager that was heated and enjoyed it for about 20 minutes and it seemed to relax the muscles. Im so thankful of that.
Amazing I'm glad you are back and able to get on a computer at home. When mine goes out Im lost. Dennis Im glad for you, the job situation sounds ideal. Now for our Grand Lizard if only we could help him....
Hope everyone has a great weekend! TTYL

Pet Problems are very hard! I have a very old schnauzer that is the boss of all of us and when it is time for him to leave us we will have no idea what to do each evening! "Us" is a 3 year old yorkie ( be careful with yorkies, they can break legs when they are under 12 weeks old, just jumping around on the ground!)and two almost twin calico kitties (jillie bean and sally because the only difference in their markings is a black forehead or a red forehead). My kitties always seem to know when the nausea is at it's worst and they do their best to distract me. They are so loving and I am so blessed with them. Of course they learned as kittens to do what the schnauzer says! I am still fighting the nausea, but the blood sugars are great and I have lost 20 pounds since August. I read what you all write and it is so really encouraging, but I just really like to read what you all say. Thank you all for being here, just to read even if it isn't always about byetta. It is very comforting after a very hard day at work and a a focus when I just want to sleep because my stomach is just killing me. I hope you all have a great New Year and you all will just keep blogging!

Dennis - could you possibly have a bad pen? I had one last May - sugars went up as did my appetite. When I replaced it, I could tell the difference almost immediately.

by Peanut (PM , CC ) on Friday January 4, 2008 @ 9:25 PM

Debi, Great job, 20 pounds in a few months. The nausea will dissipate soon. You will wake up one day and it will be gone In the mean time, enjoy the weight loss. It does not last forever and the early months are the ones that the weight loss is greatest. I will be starting my 2nd year in April and I have not lost a pound in 3 months. I have not gained it back either and that makes me happy. I am happy that you follow our messages and sometimes think that we don't talk enough about Byetta. There are other things happening in our lives that are more important.

April, I was worried about how you back would be. I'm happy that you did better. I have a bad back and can understand your discomfort. Rest up, Sweetie it's the weekend.

Amazingrace, Very cute M&M story. When is you daughter moving back east? The weather has been brutal around here and its supposed to warm up next weel

Marty, Its not that I think you would look cuter in my hat. It is the fact that I designed it, found a taxidermist, dyed it hot pink and it is all mine. The other day I wore it to Macy's and people were 5 deep standing around staring at me. I ran out of the store before they could get a good look and make one for themselves. Its very, very hard when you have something that everyone wants.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all your wishes.

Peanut, I don't think its a bad pen - I have had one of those and the readings were even higher, but I knew the reason that time.

Marty, The two most popular books on Lady Jane Grey are "Lady Jane Grey" by Alison Plowden (publisher Sutton Publishing Limited) and "Nine Days a Queen" by Ann Rinaldi (pub: HarperTrophy). There is also a 1985 movie "Lady Jane" now available on DVD and starring a very young Helena Bonham Carter. I found this website that gives some information http://www.britainexpress.com/History/tudor/grey.htm

Jersey, Its strange that despite having lived and worked in the States and holidayed there many times, I find that as I get older it seems to take me longer to adjust to hearing an American accent. Could be the same in reverse for you, although you are just a young thing.

by Dennis (PM , CC ) on Saturday January 5, 2008 @ 8:23 AM

Jersey- Hopefully when her lease is up in October 2008. When we took them to the airport on new years day, she would not go back to my daughter and kept saying grammy come too! When my daughter had to take her through the revolving doors I could hear her screaming Grammy. Good thing my husband was there to drive because I was a total mess! I was glad that we were at my daughter and sil's for the rest of the day. It helped take my mind off missing them so much.

Dennis - My mom's best friend is from England. I just love to hear her talk. She has been the US for at least 45 years and still has that british accent.

by Amazingrace (PM , CC ) on Saturday January 5, 2008 @ 9:33 AM

Amazingrace, How sad was that to hear her crying "Grammy". It really makes me sad. I don't realize how lucky I am. I see my 4 every Sunday

Dennis, Don't get me wrong, I love the British accent and find it very distinguished. This particular movie was strange.I hope I didn't offend you. I was thinking about you glucose readings and maybe your pen is defective. How much more do you have to go on it? If it's just a week or so, I would discard it and start a new one. I had one a few months back that was not effective.

by Jersey Girl (PM , CC ) on Saturday January 5, 2008 @ 9:55 AM

Dennis-thanks for the info on books about Lady Jane Grey. My daughter has the movie, and that is what sparked her interest. My son gave me some info about her when he got home, but only things that his guide had told him. I will be ordering my daughter the books, and probably a copy for myself.

Amazingrace-I know it tore your heart out to hear your little granddaughter screaming for you. My little great grandson cries for "m-mama" every time I leave him or he leaves me. I know that I will see him in a day or two, but it still hurts. I sure hope things will work out so that your daughter can move back home.

Well, its almost time for those Lady Vols to play, so I'd better get off. My hubby loves watching them play, and I must help him root them on to victory..hopefully. Everyone have a great day!

Hi Debi Welcome! My daughter also has a schnauzer his name is skippy. They really do think they are the boss. The older they get the more demanding they get. sounds like you are doing good on Byetta hang in there you will feel better soon. Try some diet ginger ale for the nausea.

Debi-welcome to our hangout. You will get lots of useful info here, and a lot of chuckles. sometimes the chuckles are just important as the info. I have checked some other posts where all you can discuss is the spit. We are all people, not just Byetta users, so just enjoy us, and ask any questions you may have. Thanks for the advise about the little Yorkie. I will be very careful with my little one when she comes home.

Jersey-I am going through another period where I am not real hungry. I even lost a pound this week, but these times are fewer. Hope after we pass two year mark we won't go back to being ravenous. That would be awful.

Time to fix dinner, and tyoe up a paper. Have a good evenig.

Hi Jersey,

Of course you didn't offend me. I think I know you well enough to recognise whether your comments are spiked with venom or humour!

Jersey- Yes it is very sad to leave them at the airport. I am still finding little things around the house that the baby left there, like a fruit snack stuck to back of the bedroom door, makes me want to cry and laugh at the same time.

Marty- I know what you mean about other blogs. If you go off topic they tell you that it is off topic, and take it to the correct room. It is very hard to follow. That's what I like about this blog. We are always off topic! But it is easier of follow.

Everyone have a good evening!

Hi everyone, I was reading the comments and I wanted to say that even tho I dont always feel like I did in the beginning, When everything turned my stomach at just the thought of it, I still have no desire to eat ravenously. This week with the lunch program when we have had a chance to eat I have been eating just fresh fruits and veggies and then going home and not really having the desire to eat there. When I go back to see the dr the end of February I hope to have lost some more with all the new activity Im into these days. It is nonstop at the school. Luckily the diabetes is well under control so there are no dips.
We had another storm here in Utah last night and this morning, not as big as they were saying but the snow is sure wet. Hope if it hits in your neck of the woods it is manageable and no real damage. TTYL Keep smiling!

April, I'm sure that working will deduct a few pounds. I just hope your back can handle it.

Dennis, Thank you for you kind words. I was so afraid that I might have offended you. I love your country and what it has done for the USA. Hmmm, made when wonder when I shot venom last I used to shoot much more when the Grand Lizard was here. We used to go at it daily. I was hoping JIm from Michigan was going to stick around. He seemed like easy prey for Jersey

I want to thank all of you for taking the time to share some of your wonderful pet stories. The stories all helped helped to sooth my broken heart tonight. I've been away from the computer since last Thursday evening. Little Frisky, adopted last summer, is trying his best to fill the loneliness in the house. Tommy was definitely a very special kitty.

Trusting enough to share openly with me some of the moments you all have experienced in the death of your dear pets, has warmed my heart. To Jersey, Dennis, Amazing Grace, Mel, Cookie, April, Marty and anyone else I forgot, I treasure your compassion. Marty--I'm so happy abut the new little puppy. Thank all of you again for sharing your special as well as difficult pet memories. We really are blessed to have them in our lives. wolf

Wolf-I hope your pain is easing some. I am excited about the new puppy, but I still miss my little Fideaux. Every night when I get bedtime treats for my husband and grandkids dogs I always get out one for Fideaux. We will be having to have my grandson's dog put down before long. He has congestive heart failure and really bad arthristis. We know it won't be long, but we don't want to do it too soon. He and my granddaughter's dog are almost 12. When my granddaughter married she had to leave her dog here. Her husband does not like inside pets.
Hope all of you have a great day.

Jersey- So sorry her hear that your daughter has this crappy disease. It is good that they caught it early. My probally went undiagnosed for about 15 years. When I would have bloodwork my fbs would always be high. The company my hubby was working for would change insurance carriers every year so it would be a new pcp. The pcp I have now did a a1c after 2 high fbs, and it was 12.4. My niece is 15 1/2 and is type 11 her father is in denial and her mother says she is to young to have a old persons disease. How stupid are they both. She is taking metforin, and they tell her it is so she can loose weight. She weighs about 300# and is getting bigger. It is so said. I tried talking to my brother, and thinks that I don't have it either, and that I am overacting.

Just catching up with what I missed, it will take awhile!

Amazigrace-I read your posts about your niece. I am so sorry that her parents are so in denial. she really needs their support. Being heavy and skipping periods sounds like she could have PCOS. too. My youngest daughter has that, and they use metformin to treat it. She is also on heavy doses of spironalactone (sp) for it. Her periods are still very irregular, and she hasn't ben able to have children. She has adopted two sons, and is in the process of beginning a third adoption.

Hope all of you are well, and have a good restful evening.

Amazingrace, My daughter goes to an Endo in 2 weeks and I hope she puts her on Byetta. She cannot afford to gain any weight on oral meds. Her weight is about 75 pounds higher than mine at this point. Her periods are irregular and she is on thyroid med, she is a physical mess. She is terrible with taking medication but I remember that when she was pregnant and had to take insulin, she was very observant.

Jersey-I am so sorry that your daughter ha so many health issues. Maybe the endo will start her on byetta, before it gets any worse. She is very young to have to go through all of this. Maybe they will soon come up with something that is even better than the byetta. I know we all hope so.

Time to get ready for work. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Jersey & Marty- Thanks for your concern. I worry about my niece, but there is nothing that I can do. She is good about taking her thyroid medication, but her endo keeps cancelling her appointments. I told my brother that he should get her another endo, but he will not. If it were my daughter it would be a different story.

Today was BEAUTIFUL. 61, and no heat or sweatshirt on today. I was actually was on the warm side.

April- hope your back in feeling better. Back pains are the pits!

Marty- When do you get your new puppy? I can feel your joy!

Jersey- did not forget about lunch. My mom's car was totaled right before christmas. So know I am driving her around. She does not know if she wants to get a new one. (shes 83) She thought that her old car would be her last car. Now she can get a smaller one. She is 4-ll and drove a 83 buick century. It was way too big for her!

Robin- How is your daughters knee doing? Hope it is good.

Well part of my last post was missing! When I did my shot tonight I noticed that the needle was hard to screw on, and when I pushed the plunger it didn't click like normal. When I took off the needle, I looked inside and it was bent completely down. I did not know if should do it again, or let it go. I decided to repeat the shot with a new needle. Did not have any bad effects, so I guess I did not get the first one.

by Amazingrace (PM , CC ) on Tuesday January 8, 2008 @ 6:29 PM

Hi Guys,

I was reading a report from the byetta people yesterday on progress on the new one-shot-a-week version. It is in the final stages of phase 3 trials which I believe is the last set of trials and is conducted on volunteer human guinea pigs. One of the things they have noticed is none of the test group seem to have complained of nausea. They are hoping to get it to the market in spring, but it will have to undergo full trials by FDA because it is so radically different to the daily shot version, and that might delay things. Sounds very promising though.

What seems to happen over here is that FDA just send over their test results and our equivalent of FDA (NICE) will give their approval on the basis of your work. Sounds a bit cheeky on our side, but it works both ways because FDA will often use the NICE tests to approve a European drug.

If its only one shot a week instead of 14 shots, I have this mental picture of the pen being the size of a horse syringe and you have to inject a gallon of the stuff!

|<   <<   >>   >|

by Dennis (PM , CC ) on Tuesday January 8, 2008 @ 7:25 PM

Dennis- That is so funny! A pen that big will be a site to see. I don't if I would go for a once a week shot. What would that do to your pancreas. I would rather take 14 shots and have a good pancreas!

|<   <<   >>   >|

by Amazingrace (PM , CC ) on Tuesday January 8, 2008 @ 7:53 PM

Dennis, You cracked me up I wonder how many people its going to take to screw the needle on. Yikes, can you imagine the size of the needle How long will it take to inject a once a month shot !? Will we have to take off one day a month for the injection to take to be injected?? Wow, there is a lot to think about. At least we won't have to remove shelves from our fridge, since it it just one huge injection it won't have to be stored.

Amazingrace, Whenever I have a problem with screwing the needle on, I take it right off and throw it away. It has happened quite frequently to me.

April, You never complain about anything. Your back must hurt your horribly. I do think that strengthening you back will help. I hat tha you were so excited about your new job and then you are having this problem. I have a bad back and I can just imagine how painful it would be to lean over a short counter hours a day. I pray that your discomfort will ease up.

Amazing-I get Cupcake this Friday. I am very excited. I do worry because she is so young (6 weeks), but my little poodle was only 7 weeks when we got him, He lasted 12 1/2 years.

April-I am so sorry that your back is worse, instead of better. I thought maybe it was just a need to adjust, but its been a week now. Sure hope you feel better today.

Dennis-I thought I had a vivid imagination, but yours tops mine. I did get a mental picture of my husband standing across the room and giving me my injection, and then vice-versa.

Well, the laundry calls me, and some of the names it calls me really aren't very nice.!! Take care today, and have a great day.

I have this picture of a needle it would take a whole family just to give it. I think that Byetta should supply a fridge with the shot. Kinda like when you buy bulk meat they give you the freezer! I don't think my house is big enough for a once a week or month shot! Never mind taking off a day just to give a shot that size, you would need a couple of days to get over the side effects. If you think nausea is bad with the 10 imagine with a 40 pen.

Marty- you will do fine with your little puppy. I just love puppies and kittens.

by Amazingrace (PM , CC ) on Wednesday January 9, 2008 @ 10:41 AM

Giant pens and a plethura of people to screw in the needle? LOL.. I love you all! Very funny. Thanks for the visuals and laughs. And who knew they give you a freezer when you buy meat in bulk. I guess if I need a new freezer I know where to go right?

Back to a number 5 pen with minimal nausea and no more throwing up. Dr had no problem calling in a new rx with refills but the pharmacy told me that insurance was denying it. Got it all worked out with in about 10 minutes but it just about sent me over the edge. I was expecting a big fight but they just didn't realize it was for a different dosage. Whew!

Sorry to hear about your back April. I'm sure your body will start to adjust to it all soon.

Good to know there is a problem sometimes with the needles. I'll know to throw it away and get a new one right away. I think I can feel your excitement from here Marty. What a fun anticipation. It gives me good memories when we got our sister kitties when they were 8 weeks old.

Thanks for sharing my excitement, Jersey. Day after tomorrow. I can hardly wait.

Just got back form the emergency room. My son dislocated his kneecap. They thought that he was going to undergo surgery, but they were able to pop it back into place. they put him in an immobilizer, and have him using crutches. we told him that his 16 year old mind got his 37 year old body in trouble. He is a high school wrestling coach, and was trying to show his guys a new move. I think he demonstrated what not to do, instead. We spent over three hours waiting for them to release him after they got him immobilized. They were trying to find him something to wear home. They had cut his pants off of him, and it was a little chilly to go home in his drawers. Of course the paper jumpsuit they gave him didn't offer much in the way of warmth, but it did preserve his modesty.

Time to get ready for bed. Have a good night.

Hi. Every one

Amazing my daughter is coming along its a hard road with all the physical therapy. I got sick for about a week and could not do a thing. I went for my shot in my back and this is the first one that ever hurt so bad the doc said the nerve is really being pinched pretty good. I've already had 2 spinal fusions. They say the only thing that might help me is a complete spinal fusion( yea like I'm going to let them do that to me}. I told the doc not to worry about me I am a tough old broad. I wasn't thinking of break dancing in the near future.I have been reading all the blog but have not had time to get on line.I missed you all. It looks like the year is starting out like any other, some good some bad. I wish everyone all the good things are doubled this year. I have to go I'm falling asleep at the board.
Good night all
Be Well.

Robin- Sorry to hear that you were so sick. Glad to hear that your daughter is comming along. Any therpy is long and hard, that's why they call it PT (pain & torture) Hope that your back heals soon. My mom had injections in her spine about 4 years ago and is doing much better.

Marty- So sorry to hear about your son. I have dislocated my knee cap 3 times. It always pops right back in and is very painful for about 4 weeks after. Tomorrow is the big day for you. When you get your Cupcake give him a big kiss for Aunt Grace!

Need to go and do some running around and attempt to take the christmas tree down. I hate to take it down.

Dennis - I've been thinking about your unexpected high blood sugars. I'm just getting over a sinus infection, which is why it's on my mind - my fbs always jumps high just before and all the way through any illness. BS will jump for any stress on one's body. I'm hoping yours has settled back down and was only temporary.

Robin-Glad to hear that your daughter is coming along. Hopefully it won't be long until she is 100%.

Amazing-I talked to my son a little while aga. He said that his leg hurts, but not nearly as bad as he thought it would. It is still pretty swollen.

Update on hubby. The byetta has started working. He isn't eating nearly as much, and his fbs is around 140-138. It was running 300-380. I am anxious for him to go to the doctor this month. He will have an a1c. bet we will see a big difference.

Got to go take my granddaughter and gret-grandson shopping. Catch you later.

Hello all. This is weird but maybe you can help. I've been on Byetta 10 Pen since July and have occasionally experienced mild nausea but nothing too bad. That is until the last two days, when I've been very sick after my morning shot and breakfast of a banana. Yesterday I was able to hold down my banana but not today. Anyway, the obvious answer is to avoid bananas, but has anyone experienced a similar reaction to a particular food?

The irony of the situation is that I pulled out my lunch from the work refrigerator, and my yogurt for today...banana cream pie..blech!

Thanks in advance!

Sophie- Welcome! How times a day do you take byetta? If you take it twice do you get sick after the pm shot? They say to take byetta after a main meal. I know that if I eat something very small, I am more nauseaous. Also how long after taking byetta do you wait to eat? The longer you wait I have found the more nauseaous. I do not have one food that causes me to feel nauseaous than another. Very fatty foods do not sit very well with me. If it continues I would call your doctor. Hope this helps.

Marty- Glad to hear that your son is doing ok. Glad also that the byetta is finally starting to help your husband. Bet you can't wait till tomorrow when you can pick up your new puppy!

Off to church, then to pick up my daughter at work. Hopefully she will have a car soon, so that she will be able to get her DL on March 13. Right now it does not look like she will!

by Amazingrace (PM , CC ) on Thursday January 10, 2008 @ 6:14 PM

Hello to you Sophie. I don't have one food that bothers me either like Amazing. I have noticed the higher the fat the more it makes me puke. I was on the 10 for about a month and it was making me really nauseous and ended up not keeping my dinner down one night. I have been back to the 5 for a week and so far that is going good. I'll try going back to 10 in a few months. If its just the one food you might think about not eating that one food. You probably love them but it might be worth it.

I'm excited for you to get your new baby tomorrow too Marty.

Amazing you made me smile with regarding your daughter and her DL. Good luck.

Sophie Welcome! I always had two cups of coffee and a bowl of cereal for breakfast. Coffee and milk make me nauseated. I can drink a half cup of coffee about two or three hours after breakfast but not with breakfast. Who knows everyone is different.

by Cookie (PM , CC ) on Thursday January 10, 2008 @ 8:50 PM

Sophie-I don't react to one food, but I can't handle fried foods very well. I find that if I overeat I get very nauseous, too. I agree that if its just the bananas you should probably just skip them. I have also found that if I eat late in the evening I feel nauseous.

Jersey-Isn't it getting close to time for your cruise? I know you are probably getting excited. It would be nice to get away from the cold.

Everyone, have a great evening, and a restful night.

by Marty Nichols (PM , CC ) on Thursday January 10, 2008 @ 8:59 PM

Sophie, I am sorry that you are having a difficult time. I am happy that everyone else jumped in here with suggestions because I never had the problem that you are experiencing. I had extreme fatigue, a jittery feeling and an overall crummy feeling but never had the nausea like you are having. I would call your Doctor and see what he/she advises. Everyone reacts differently to the medication. YOu might be better staying on the 5mg.

Marty, The cruise is not until 2/1. It is just a 4 day cruise, but it will be nice to get away for a few days. THere will be John Mayer and 12 other bands performing non stop. It should be a lot of fun. There is also a huge Super Bowl party on the top deck.I went on the Mayer Cruise message board and was a little upset because there are many 20 ish going. There is actually a range of ages from 20-60ish. My daughter's friend made us feel so much better. She told us we can fit in with any age group. We'll see?! -
Your Cupcake comes to her new home in a few days. You must be so excited She has no idea what love she will be receiving.

Jersey-Just make sure you don't wear "the hat". All of those 20-somethings would be entirely too jealous and may even jump you. They would want your hat so badly. If you take it, just wear it in your cabin. Seriously, I think you will enjoy yourself.

Cupcake gets to come home at 3:00 today. We are so excited. I know my faithful little Fideaux would be glad that his mommy found a new little companion. I still miss the little guy, but am looking forward to seeing how Cupcake develops.

Jersey- I think you should wear your hat on the cruise. You might start a fashion statement. Then you could get the patent on the hat. You can market them in different colors! What a business that would be. I know a taxidermy guy, he use to live in South River, I could see if I can find him for you.

Jersey, when we hear of a tragedy at sea, (hundreds of twenty somethings jumping over board) we will immediately know the cause. Sounds like a fun cruise, I was wondering if you had a trunk I could stow away in. I would be no trouble at all and I could even guard the hat when you weren't wearing it.

April & Mel, I would hate to be the cause of 2000, 20 something, drunk beautiful bimbos in tight shirts and short pants jumping overboard or now would I??? hmm. I have to go and find that pink raccoon hat. I'm not even packing it, in case it possibly will get lost.. I'm wearing it on the plane and maybe can loose a few even before we board the ship. Ahh, this trip is sounding better every day

Marty, Cupcake sounds so sweet and peaceful. I can just imagine how she feels to actually be in a home with loving parents to look over her. The poor baby is exhausted
Sleep tight, baby Cupcake.

Cupcake slept really well last night...until 5:00 a.m. She decided that was play time. I finally put her in her crate, and she let me sleep until 7:30. I hope 5:00 isn't her regular play time. I am not a real early bird. I am l.k. if I can sleep until 7:30 or 8:00.

I had better go take care of some laundry. Have a great day. Oh, Jersey, I just hope no one steals your idea about the hat while you are on your trip. Don't let anyone check it out too closely. We wouldn't want anyone to get rich from your idea, would we?
