Byetta Users' Group

 My First Blog Post

Hi, I'm Greg, a 57 year old business owner in Tampa, FL. I just started Byetta last night, took my first dose before dinner and had my second dose before breakfast this morning. So far I don't feel any different. I found a few Byetta discussion groups in some of the diabetes blogs but found nothing devoted solely to Byetta users, so here it is, Lizardspit! Let's share info, experiences and help each other out. First off, if you're reading this because you're contemplating going on Byetta, I can tell you that I've never injected myself before and this is what I was most apprehensive about. Like most males I'm a big baby about pain. The lancing device for taking your glucose reading is just a momentary stick and controlled by the spring, so that's never been a problem for me ... but sticking a needle in to my belly and holding it in there for a count of five ... I was worried I wouldn't be able to do it. Not to worry! It was a piece of cake! The 30 gauge needle is so incredibly fine I really didn't feel it going in. If fear of self-injection is holding you back, don't let it bother you. Now I need some advice from you experienced Byetta users out there: I have a business trip coming up in two weeks, four days in Atlanta. How do you keep the lizard spit cold for four days in a hotel room, with no access to a freezer to re-freeze your cold packs? I have to attend a trade show each day and can't be going back to the room constantly to replenish ice, so what does one do? I presume the hotel room will have the usual mini-bar fridge, but these units are notoriously faulty. Also I worry that the hotel worker who comes in to the room to check and replenish the mini-bar might steal the Byetta pen thinking it could be sold on the street. Anyone have any ideas? My weight this morning was 278. This is the big issue for me, I've got to get the weight down to break this cycle of ever increasing blood pressure and blood sugar. I'm counting on Byetta to help with this, because at age 57, after years of that typical Type 2 slightly elevated blood sugar, the insulin resistance factor makes it very, very difficult to drop weight. Byetta promises to break this cycle. And so we embark on this new journey.........
